Is there anyone who could answer a question about a problem I had during my cesarean please?
I know it's a long shot!
Thanks

Not a Dr, but I have had a C-section. Maybe me or another woman who has had the operation could help, OP?

Bourbons99999 · 10/04/2021 15:42

It's a medical question really. When I had my section a big spurt of blood came from the right hand side, over the top of the dividing sheet and landed on my face! I have had chronic pain ever since and my mobility it very bad.
I was wondering if this means my femoral artery was cut by mistake.
It was too long ago for me to ask for compensation or anything but I really would like to know if it's possible that caused my pain.
One pain specialist said maybe.
It obviously shouldn't have happened but the pain started 21 months after the op so I'm not sure if it's possible.
If anyone has any idea I would love to know

If the pain started nearly 2 years after the op then it’s probably not related

AttilaTheMeerkat · 10/04/2021 16:45

The femoral artery is a large artery in the thigh and the main arterial supply to the thigh and leg. Its likely not that if the pain actually started 21 months post op.

Have you seen a hip specialist to date?. Has it been properly established where the pain is actually coming from?.

Greybeardy · 10/04/2021 20:39

They’d have gone quite a long way off piste to have cut your femoral artery (it’s nowhere near your uterus) and there would have been an awful lot of swearing in theatre! There are other more likely candidates closer to the uterus, but again you’d have known if there was a big vessel bleeding. Any old small artery can spurt blood quite a way and it’s really not uncommon in lots of operations to get blood over the drapes - doesn’t mean anything went wrong necessarily. Makes a flipping mess of the anaesthetic chart if they get it over the drapes!

Sparky888 · 10/04/2021 20:56

Have you got your medical records? They should have written down any complications on the operations note.

Hi, hip X-ray was clear so not that. Its never been established exactly why it's there. It's complicated because I had very bad adhesions due to endo so everything was stuck together inside so it would be different to normal. I also had a twisted dermoid cyst on that side that was eventually found and removed. I just feel like I've never had a definite answer. It has been diagnosed as femoral nerve pain which is why I asked about that nerve

Glad to hear it's not that unusual so thanks for that. Sounds like it's more to do with the adhesions/cyst then. Endo specialist says scarring where the nerve is which is probably more likely then.

Hi, yes and nothing on my records as far as I can see. Sounds like big blood spurts aren't as unusual as I thought which is a relief!

I've had several surgeries and last time a lump of tissue (golf ball sized) was removed on that side and it was "infarcted fat" and adhesion tissue.
When the dermoid was removed there was necrotic tissue too. The only other thing I can remember is that the histology said it might be something from the outside of my bowel but I can't remember the name of it off the top of my head, I remember looking it up at the time and it was quite rare
