Pain and bleeding between periods and after sex

Hello, I was wondering if anyone here has had or is having a similar experience to me at the moment. Sorry this is long winded and I'm not very good at putting things down in writing.

So around 10 months ago I started bleeding between periods and sometimes after sex (mainly in the week following my period) the pain feels similar to period cramps but different in some way that I can't quite put my finger on, it almost feels like period cramps mixed with wind. I usually have to take painkillers and lay down as the pain also goes to my lower back and down my thighs, but this is more like an achey pain. Then for around two weeks before my period starts, I get no bleeding or pain after sex and everything feels normal again.

I've been to the doctors and they had a look and said everything looks fine, also my swabs came back clear for any infections. She has now referred me to get an ultrasound but she said it wasn't urgent, which makes me think that I could be a while waiting and I didn't know if it was worth me going private for a ultrasound to speed up the process as I feel like I'm losing my mind a little. I feel that because the pain goes away for a few weeks before my period starts, I always think that everything's fine and then it happens again after my period ends and the worry starts all over again.

I'm 30 years old, have a copper coil that I've had for over 2 years and no children. I am up to date with my smear, (it’s due in August this year).

I feel like I'm going a little mad and it's really effecting my day to day life cos I just want to know if it's normal or not. If it's normal then I'll just get on with things but it's the not knowing that worries me.

Apologies if this makes no sense or is hard to understand.

Thanks for your response!

Have you gone to the gp about it? If so, what did they say?

Hey I had all of this and was diagnosed with Endometriosis last year. Main symptoms listed on the NHS site are:

pain in your lower tummy or back (pelvic pain) – usually worse during your period
period pain that stops you doing your normal activities
pain during or after sex
pain when peeing or pooing during your period
feeling sick, constipation, diarrhoea, or blood in your pee during your period
difficulty getting pregnant

Its a lot more common than people think so could be worth investigating?

Thank you, I will definitely look into this. The symptoms all seem to match up.

I'm still waiting to hear when my ultrasound appointment will be, but have a feeling it will be a long wait..

An ultrasound scan will not detect endometriosis if it is present in the uterine cavity as these deposits are so very small (and I have had more such scans than I care to mention).

Any pain that is cyclical in nature and or gets worse up to and including menses should be checked out to see if endometriosis is present. Its usually diagnosed through a keyhole surgery op called a laparoscopy.

www.endometriosis-uk.org/ is also a good website

Thank you for your comment, that's all really useful information. I will be sure to take a look at the website you linked. Thank you again!
