I also have an ectropian and yes you can worry if you have health anxiety. That is what you need to address here. Only then will you bring to accept what others are telling you

Just over 3 years that I've known about it's had a clear smear in that time but made the move to confront my health anxiety. Have been on venlafaxine for 2 years and I'm now weaning myself off them as I feel so much better. Walking helps the mind also

Do you worry about cervical ectropion or are you not bothered about it. I have been on citalopram but it didnt help so i just stopped taking it xx

@Emzy12 I had it throughout my twenties, had it cauterised twice at hospital because I bled so much. But that was all it was, nothing more sinister and smears always normal. I also had it throughout my pregnancy, which was a bit scary because I hadn’t had it for years previously (since I came off the pill, which had undoubtedly made it worse) but again that’s all it was. Hormones in both cases. My mum had it in her 20s and in pregnancy and is a healthy 65 year old, never had an abnormal smear.

Thanks for your reassurance agentcooper xx

I’ve had one for at least 25 years, and am still standing! They don’t cause cancer.

You seeking reassurance for your health anxieties is just making them more entrenched. Even if you get reassurance, it never lasts long, does it?

What treatment have you had for your health anxiety?

Voice0fReason · 29/03/2021 23:19

It's your health anxiety that needs treating.
You've been worrying about this for years, despite having been told numerous times that there is no link. There is no other evidence that will ever convince you.
You should be able to self refer for mental health support or ask your GP.

Hi @Emzy12! I was diagnosed with a cervical ectropion maybe 5 years ago. It was treated with silver nitrate and all great til it came back about 18 months ago. My mum also had them, but they resolved themselves after pregnancy.

Personally, they don’t worry me at all. All my smears, bloods and a biopsy have been totally normal. The only thing that bothers me is the spotting, but that’s more an inconvenience than anything. Please try not to worry. Listen to your GP and NHS over other websites. The internet is full of rubbish; you could diagnose yourself with anything if you look hard enough. I hope you are receiving some care for your health anxiety, but in the meantime, hopefully peoples’ experiences here put your mind at ease ☺️
