Hi, anyone with experience of Vagifem? I have been prescribed this when seeing a consultant about lychen sclerosis. I have many moisturisers to use, but I understood my condition to be external. Has anyone else a similar experience and will vagifem help?

Vagifem is prescribed for menopausal women. It's a tiny pessary used in the vagina. I have never heard of it being used for lichen sclerosis, although topical estrogen cream sometimes is.

Most women with LS see a dermatologist who is experienced in treating it.

Are you newly diagnosed?

No, I have suffered for around 8 or 9 years. I am 69.I have been regularly seeing a gynocologist, and was using a steroid cream on and off, as instructed. As this particular specialist wasn't happy with what she saw, I was referred on for a second opinion. I expected to have a biopsy, but I was told this wasn't necissary. It was this gynocologist , a mrs rather than dr, who prescribed vagifem and new moisturisers. Perhaps she saw something else? Should i question it before starting treatment, and if so, who with?

I think anyone should question any treatment - the pros and cons, and why it's being suggested. So yes, ask away!

If her title is Mrs X, that means she is more highly qualified than someone with Dr as their title.

Mr and Mrs/Ms mean they are qualified as surgeons, which is a more senior level.
