Resting heart rate- low?

namechange2547 · 06/03/2021 22:34

I have a resting heart rate of 58 currently, it's usually 55-60, it only goes over 60 when I'm unwell, pregnant, or when I'm less healthy in what I'm eating Christmas time usually (I'm calorie counting at the moment to lose a few pounds and that always makes my heart rate drop more) I've read that adults with a heart rate under 60, unless athlete (which I'm NOT!) are classed as having bradycardia whatever that is. I was prone to low blood pressure in pregnancy, is this something I should get concerned about? Anyone else have similar?

I also have a low resting heart rate - similar to you. I’ve been told it’s not an issue if it’s normal for me, only if it drops suddenly.
My mum is similar (she is 60, overweight, although reasonably fit) hers has always been around 55-60. No other issues.

Mine is usually between 54 and 58 (according to my fitbit). I also breathe really slowly, it turns out - I take 9-10 breaths per minute when I'm resting which is apparently much slower than normal. But I'm otherwise pretty functional so not sure when/if it would be an issue

I’m the same including low bp. I don’t think it’s an issue if it’s normal for you. I’m the polar opposite to an athlete also Grin

Has your heart rate always been low? I would suggest if this is new then it might be worth contacting a GP about.
I'm on the low side too and in no way an athlete. I was briefly being monitored by a heart specialist in 2019 as I had a spell of fainting. He wasn't concerned by low heart rate but then everyone is different.
Are you feeling well in yourself?
I would say if you aren't then it might be worth contacting your GP.

Thanks all, yes fine in myself though I've always struggled with standing for too long (not walking, just standing) . It's been this way since having a heart rate monitor since 2018. How do I measure my breath? Intrigued by that!

Mine on average is 51 alto I am pretty fit.
However this week it dropped to 35!!
I feel fine tho but will mention it to the doctors just to be safe.

namechange2547 · 07/03/2021 08:51

@iloverock that's very low! Worth mentioning just to be sure. DH's is in the 50s but he runs several times a week. I'm slim and walk a lot but don't do a lot of cardiovascular exercise normally, when I do my "scores" are always very good, above average and frankly completely undeserving considering walking is as much as I do.

I do run and bike and yoga probably 6days out of 7 so pretty fit but even lm slightly worried by the 36!

namechange2547 · 07/03/2021 09:16

@iloverock yes I think get 36 checked out!

I've been a little worried about mine too as my Garmin tells me it's 51 most days! I've never checked it before getting a heart rate monitor nor have I been told there's a problem when I've had a bp check.

I guess it's normal for some people to be on the low side? Also I wonder how accurate the monitor is on a Fitbit/step tracker? Otherwise yes, 36 is incredibly low!

JinglingHellsBells · 07/03/2021 11:21

58 is fine. The lower the better for health as it means you are fit.
60 is given as the average for the lowest range, but honestly, it's not an issue.

emmathedilemma · 07/03/2021 11:27

Mine is usually 54-58, i worry when it hits 60!! I wouldn’t say I’m an athlete but I exercise fairly often (although not as much at the moment as I would normally)
