So. Since having my baby all I ever hear is pelvic floor pelvic floor pelvic floor
What do pelvic floor exercises actually do after having a baby? Are they worth doing?! Does anyone really do them? I have so many questions. I have no bladder problems luckily the only thing I would say is that I have little to no sensation during sex anymore, and I don't know if I can see pelvic floor exercises changing that, unless anyone can tell me different ?

Every woman should do pelvic floor exercises daily, it really is important. Prevention is better than cure as they say. You don’t wait until it’s cold to go out and buy a jumper so why would you wait to have continence issue before doing PFE? They do also help improve sensations when having sex.

Women who do daily pelvic floor exercises, or Kegels, often report better sexual arousal, sensation and ability to orgasm after only a few months

Download the nhs squeezy app, it gives you reminders to do them. You also have to make sure you do them properly, none of this ‘squeeze as if stopping a wee’ business, you also need to squeeze your bum hole as if stopping a fart.
The drop in estrogen around menopause causes PFM to weaken, this is why so many older ladies have continence issues. It would be harder to build up muscle strength then so it’s never too early to start.

As my friend used to tell me "unless you want to pee when you laugh or cough when you're a bit older, do your pelvic floor exercises"
She was in her thirties at the time and never did her exercises after she finished having her kids years previously.

It’s also worth having a women’s health physio. Some of them do a ‘Mummy MOT’ which is very helpful.

The Gusset Grippers lady Elaine does a hilarious stand-up routine if ever you get the chance to see her perform!

I was gonna get the app - but it's 2.99!

After I had a bumhole facelift (thanks DS) my physio told me to clench every time I lifted my coffee mug, had a wee, a shower, brushed teeth....

I've done maybe 3 Blush

Howdoin · 04/03/2021 13:27

@NigellaSeed that’s why the £2.99 app is worth it. I have never paid for any app before but the £2.99 (less than a large cappuccino) is well worth it to remind me 4x a day to not become an incontinent old lady Grin
set for 5 repeats with 2 second rests & you can increase the amount of repeats as your muscles get stronger.

@courtsbxxox yes they can help.

courtsbxxox · 04/03/2021 13:41

There is also an app called "squeeze time" which I have found I have downloaded lots of kegel apps lol, hopefully they will help me see a difference down there! Thanks everyone :)

I take your point. Touché

Ooo... I think I just did one! Grin

There used to be a poster here with username something like "PelvicFloorSqueezeReminder" which was absolutely brilliant! On the flip side I don't think they've posted for ages so I've got them to blame for my lack of PF squeezes Grin
