I'm at my wits end and just looking for advice support/be told I'm not alone 😢

I have suspected eczema in my private area. I have been to the gp about 25 times over the last few years (after about 6yrs of trying to 'deal' with it myself being to embarrassed to go gp) they said it looks like I have ezcema and provided me steroid cream to use. I also suffer recurrent thrush, possibly from having to use the steroid cream, I don't know but it's just a mess. I have really just given up hope with trying to get this under control. My skin gets so dry but I can't just use cream as it will more than likely give me thrush I feel like I'm in a constant cycle of never ending dry skin/taking medication/trying different creams.

I have had numerous bloods and all fine I take optibac daily but I feel like I'm constantly dealing with dry itchy skin. I know no one is qualified to give medical advice but I just needed to get this off my chest as I'm too embarrassed to speak to anyone about this.

Definitely try reusable san pro OP if you can't switch straight away to the mini pill. I was constantly getting sore, infected spots on my vulva and tracked it back to san pro. The spots were starting a day or so after my period, then taking a couple of weeks to heal then just as they were gone, period would arrive again and start them off again.

Used reusables for the last 2 periods and not a single spot, or sore bit. I won't go back now to normal san pro.

Mysillystory · 28/02/2021 18:58

Ask for a biopsy, I had what they thought was eczema, or psoriasis but it turned out to be VIN3 and I had to have surgery to have it removed.

Amiwrongforthis · 28/02/2021 18:58

@cptartapp

Ask for some swabs to be taken if you haven't had done.
I couldn't tell you the amount of swabs I've had done always comes back the same usually candida and sometimes bv and candida

@feesh

You absolutely need to be referred to a dermatologist. It could be genital psoriasis.

I came to say this. Genital psoriasis.

PuddyMuddles4 · 28/02/2021 19:01

I can highly recommend Boudreaux's Butt Paste.

When my DD had her stoma reversed her privates and bum were cracked and bleeding - this cleared it up in a couple of days. I've also had friends use it for excema and psioriasis and it does wonders. It's a miracle cream :-). I use it for my own excema.

Just wondering whether you use disposable panty liners, because I was so itchy all the time and treated for thrush quite intensively and it came straight back.....went on for a couple of years, until I twigged that the adhesive was maybe the culprit, and I was right. Two years of washable popper liners now and never looked back. Oh and I also though menopause because I’m 53

Does your partner use condoms? Also, do your knickers have elastic in them? If so, it could be an allergy to those. I’m allergic to some types of elastic!

I can recommend eurax and diprobase, both safe for sensitive areas.

  • Protopic cream
Franklyfrost · 28/02/2021 19:34

It’s a real pain but you could try a super strict elimination diet. I get eczema from one food flavouring and one preservative. Took forever to work it out but once I had eliminated those two ingredients my eczema totally disappeared. Again it’s not a quick or easy fix: additives don’t always have to be labeled in the ingredients and food processing aids never have to be in the ingredients so it’s hard work. Also, various patches of psoriasis disappeared too. Good luck.

Amiwrongforthis · 28/02/2021 19:35

No partner so not using condoms or having any form of intercourse at the moment but never had an issue with elastic before. And usually don't use any liners. I do use organic tampons during my period. I have tried the mooncup but couldn't get on with it. I have tried reusable sanitary towels but found it made my skin worse during my period and was having to change it about 5 times a day so it was fresh.

I will have a look at the probiotics mentioned above also. I will also look at the paste mentioned too.

Do you shave down there? If so, stop. It can irritate your skin and if it's sensitive anyway it might be exacerbating the situation. Could it be something that is coming in contact with you outside of the house like the toilet paper you use at work or something? My boss seems to like his arse smelling of lavender because he always buys scented.

How about bubble bath?

TracyHorrobin · 28/02/2021 19:36

Could this be Psoriasis? It is possible to have this vaginally. Please ask your GP to refer you to dermatology .

Amiwrongforthis · 28/02/2021 19:37

Unfortunately I can't afford to go private for the dermatologist at the moment or its definitely something I would love to do. I will be speaking to the gp tomorrow as this has been 3yrs I have been going to them. Sometimes I haven't even bothered as I feel I just get fobbed off with a different steroid cream. But I will put my foot down this time and insist on the referral.

I do shave maybe once every 4 months ish when it gets a mess. I usually carry my own loo roll as I can't use anything scented. I have also just cut out baths altogether and only shower now. No shower gel just zero base cream for wash.

You can get a referral to a specialist Vulval clinic. They are based around the country. Our nearest is over an hours drive.

Superb service that will get to the bottom of this. Often GPs don't see enough to know how to treat. I fell into this category years ago and would have benefited from being seen five years before.

Insist on a referral. It's time to see someone who does this day in day out. You don't want to end up with scar tissue.

Druidlookingidiot · 28/02/2021 19:40

I had this problem a while back. GP was fucking useless. Someone suggested I go to the walk in Sexual Health Clinic. I was a bit horrified but desperate, so I went. They gave me a course of oral anti-fungals and it sorted me out.

Another suggesting vulval skin clinic; I had similar problems in my teens and was cared for exceptionally well by them. I ended up having a lot of my vulva surgically removed at age 20 but the clinic were wonderful, very caring .

Offredismysister · 28/02/2021 19:42

A sexual health clinic might be worth a shout. I went on some training at Kings in London & there was a presentation by a consultant that specialised in genital skin conditions. He was brilliant & really knew his stuff.

My gynae advice:
cotton underwear, air it, no soap

sleep without knickers and change diet- recurring thrush is when too much sugar in your diet.

and for eczema, its on going battle unfortunately,
stress sometimes can trigger the flare ups, and allergy.
have you tried taking any antihistamine tablets?

delusionsofadequacy · 28/02/2021 19:46

Could be lichen planus rather than sclerosis. Especially if the steroids dont really help. Have you tried a 2 week course of oral antifungal to try to fully eradicate the thrush? Rather than creams wonder whether you might be better with a more greasy ointment even just vaseline so less for the thrush to grow in pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/20868406/
