Ok

I'm like a dog with fleas and it's so hard not to itch.

I for the past week or so I've been itchy as, I first put it down to af being due but it's carried on. So I rang the gp who said I have a water infection and has given me antibiotics but I'm not sure if it's thrush?

Why am I itching so much? Never experienced this in my life! I don't use scented soaps, haven't changed washing powder etc

Don't know what to do? I have used some anti fungal cream that DD had left over from thrush but that didn't do much only stopped the itching for a day or so??

Please help before I just tear the whole lot off!!!

You might need an internal pessary if it’s thrush. Antibiotics can cause thrush too so if you’ve started taking them it could be making it worse not better.
Maybe pop into the pharmacy and see what they suggest?

User1511 · 25/02/2021 21:32

Internal pessary was all that worked for me.

sproutsnbacon · 25/02/2021 21:33

Loo roll. Some loo rolls are scented and scratchy and give me thrush symptoms. Plain cold yogurt is good for relieving the itch.

ChocBeforeCock · 25/02/2021 21:35

If it’s thrush, the cream will treat the symptoms but not cure it, so when you stop using it you’ll still itch. You need a pessary or a tablet to treat the actual infection I think, and use the cream to make it more bearable in the meantime.

I’m not a doctor, just a fellow thrush sufferer!

WilsonMilson · 25/02/2021 21:41

Sounds like thrush. Get a canesten and pop it in at bedtime. Also, natural unsweetened yogurt on the area helps. I find drinking kefir on a daily basis has made not only a huge improvement in my digestive system but also I never get thrush anymore.
Antibiotics or a non existent uti may make things worse and it’s strange you’ve been prescribed that when itching is not a uti symptom.

WilsonMilson · 25/02/2021 21:42

I mean vaginal pessary by the way!

Vinorosso74 · 25/02/2021 21:42

There's a tablet you can take to get rid of thrush. Canesten make one, there may be a cheaper version if you ask the pharmacist. You will need the cream until it kicks in.

gamerchick · 25/02/2021 21:43

Pessery all the way. You can buy it from.supermarker shelves.

Defiantly41 · 25/02/2021 21:43

How old are you? If old enough for it to be peri menopause or menopause, it can be a sign of vaginal atrophy. In which case you need a prescription for topical oestrogen

DinosaurDiana · 25/02/2021 21:43

Maybe try an antihistamine too.

TolkiensFallow · 25/02/2021 21:45

Go to an independent chemist if you can - they’ll have the non branded stuff which is exactly the same and way cheaper.
The oral tablet is like £1.50 non branded but about £14 by canesten and non branded cream is about £2

mummabubs · 25/02/2021 21:48

Like others have said, vaginal pessary all the way. I've been lucky to only have thrush once but it was unbelievably painful and itchy. The cream on its own did nothing but I saw quite quick results once I'd bought the pessary.

shivermetimbers77 · 25/02/2021 21:58

You can also buy a canesten anti fungal tablet you swallow. Works well and less messy than the pessary

PearlescentIridescent · 25/02/2021 22:00

The problem is if it's not thrush the antibiotics can make it so much worse as they throw off the bacterial balance down there. My poor mum really suffered, she injured her foot and was given antibiotics to treat an infection and it messed her up for months with terrible itchiness and soreness.

Antibiotics are the worst! Definitely do those tests and try and get it established before you treat for thrush or BV

Roadhouse111 · 25/02/2021 22:11

Have you had a look? If there's white patches then contact your GP for an appointment, it could be lichens sclerosus.

AtLastEarwax · 25/02/2021 22:20

Antihistamine is a good idea Thankyou, I've got some piriton,

Going to send hubby out now. Is vaginal better than oral tablets?

I've only taken one anti biotic, tbf I'm surprised she even thought it was a UTI xx
