Big blood clots? Pic attached * tw for blood

So since I gave birth two years ago, periods have never gone back to normal... kept thinking they would and that I should maybe get it checked but then time went on and then pandemic.
Essentially before I would basically not know I was having a period, super light wouldn’t last long etc.

I remember thinking something wasn’t right at time and reached out but was told I was fine.

Anyways fast forward two years, pain is so much worse than it used to be, flows are super heavy, and now they seem to be coming more frequently.

Anyways I just passed a massive blood clot. This period has seemed quite heavy, and then I was on loo, felt something move in my stomach and wiped and this was what was there. This has happened once before in last couple years.

Wondering if something went wrong and wasn’t picked up?

Anyone had similar experience? I’ve got a telephone appointment on Thursday with gp but would just like some hand holding/positive similar stories if there are any as I can’t find much of people with similar experience

Will post pic

Google "decidual cast". It's when a big piece of womb lining comes away at once, I'm not a doctor so don't know but it is possibly this. Hope you get some answers from the doctor on Thursday

ign0re · 21/02/2021 22:36

Thank you! That was an informative and non-traumatic read!

mineofuselessinformation · 21/02/2021 22:40

Doesn't look like a decidual cast to me - I've had one.
That's a plain blood clot.
You're obviously experiencing heavy bleeding, OP.
It's far from ideal, and your GP should help you (drugs, or endometrial ablation if you've finished your family).
As a single symptom, though, it's not sinister - but definitely not something you should put up with.

ign0re · 21/02/2021 22:49

Ok doke, we were thinking of trying for another soon and I’m just worried that there’s damage done that might be furthered by a pregnancy so might be worth fixing/looking into first before we try or maybe I’m just over thinking it all

I do not think you're over thinking this at all. You also remember thinking something wasn’t right at time and reached out but you were told you were fine. You've stated that your periods have not been right this past couple of years, it needs further investigation from a gynaecologist and as part of your phone call on Thursday I would be requesting a referral to such a specialist.

Endometriosis can cause both severe pain and heavy bleeding to arise and that is a big blood clot you've passed there. In the meantime I would suggest you keep a daily pain and symptom diary, particularly if you do not already do this.

ign0re · 22/02/2021 09:35

Thank you so much.

I’ve had clots like that regularly during my periods, ever since I was 15. So, for me this would be normal (I have pcos and endometriosis). Lots of my friends have found that their periods are heavier after they’ve had children. So this may be your new normal. You could see your gp to ask about going on the pill or trying the mirena coil, but they don’t always fix the problem (don’t get me started lol). As pp said, keep a diary and then after a few cycles you will be able to clearly share it with a dr.

Milomonster · 23/02/2021 13:15

Get a scan - could be fibroids. Huge are clots have become the norm for me but I have fibroids which will be removed soon. I get flooding followed by bad cramping which is a sign that I’m about to pass a huge clot.

emmathedilemma · 23/02/2021 15:53

I also had clots due to fibroids.

ign0re · 23/02/2021 22:35

Ah ok thanks so much all for the feedback!

I’ve got telephone appointment on Thursday with the gp so hoping they listen and refer me to get it all looked at.
Part of the reason I’ve put it off as I often feel dismissed by medics but this is really starting to get to me and I need to know where I stand fertility wise etc
Hopefully it’s not just doom and gloom
But I’ve (somewhat) prepared myself for that result...

Thanks again all, I imagine it’ll be a while before I find anything out but good to get some information that isn’t from a doom google

How did appointment go @ign0re

misskatamari · 25/02/2021 20:14

I hope your phone appointment went okay. My periods have always been heavy and painful. Some months are really bad now, at least for the first few days. Last month I passed a huge clot like yours, freaked me out so much! I spoke to the gp that day, as nothing like that has ever happened before, and my bleeding was so heavy, with lots more clots. They prescribed tranexamic acid, which I took for the rest of the day and next morning, which pretty much stopped the bleeding. I was dreading my next period, which thankfully was pretty "normal" so I'm hoping it was a random one off. Very scary tho, and if it starts happening more often I'll want things checking over. I hope your gp was helpful today

itsgettingwierd · 25/02/2021 20:28

I was losing clots like that 5-6 times an hour for 7-9 days. And periods were every 15 days.

I was told it's heavy period.

Near on washed me out and I'm experiencing severe iron deficiency now.

I recommended speaking to GP as there may be a cause and there are ways to prevent this.

ign0re · 25/02/2021 22:04

Misskat and itsgettingweird - sorry - that sounds awful for both of you, hope you are both okay now and getting the help you need?

Thanks for asking...
Telephone appointment went well... and he’s referring me for a scan which I’m delighted about, was really worried they were going to fob me off especially when he was going down the are you stressed at work route... hopefully the scan gives us some answers.

I’m prepared for the worst outcome but hoping for the best xx

My scan showed an extremely thick endometrial lining with evidence of adenomyosis.

I have a coil now and re scan in October.

Coil means just light spitting daily now but it should stop after 3-6 months.

But I understand if TTC that's not an option for you to try!

I had similar though took years to get to the point of diagnosis. Well I say years, it took what see,s about 2 seconds after someone finally did an internal scan to see this. External ones showed not a lot.

In may case those clots kept taking my mirenas with them, so I've had an ablation. Like pp here says though, not great if you're still ttc

itsgettingwierd · 26/02/2021 20:45

Ohlook my first mirena came out with clots after 2 months and I had northisterone for 3 months before another was fitted.

I've had this one for 2 months and off northisterone for a month.

I'm hoping it settles but a huge bleed and it coming out wouldn't surprise me at some point!

Thatwentbadly · 26/02/2021 20:50

How big is the clot? It’s hard to work out from the photo. Remember if you going through more than a pad of bleeding an hour you should get medical help tonight.

ign0re · 27/02/2021 12:23

The clot was probably slightly smaller than my palm...

Sounds weird but I can put up with the pain and the blood clots etc, I just more want to make sure everything is ok...
Like if anything needs to be repaired before we ttc so that we don’t get pregnant but then it’s not sustainable because I should have had x y or z done first and now caused further damage...

We’re a little bit off ttc but it’s something we’d plan for a few years time... but if we need to get moving with it we will... or if it turns out we can’t get pregnant we can stop worrying about trying to prevent that.
It’s such a tricky territory so many what ifs etc I’m still quite young and so want to make sure we don’t screw it up!

Update: Got my scan next week

The letter says to drink 8 mugs of water 90 mins before appointment. Bit worried about that considering how often I normally need to pee (got checked for diabetes it ain’t that)
Any advice welcome 😂

Blackopal · 30/03/2021 09:22

Actually makes me cross how we are told this is normal and not to worry.

I saw my doctor's three times over a couple of years with heavy bleeding and huge clots.
Repeatedly told nothing wrong.

The situation turned into an emergency and was admitted with life threatening aenema, needing four blood transfusions.
Closely followed by a hysterectomy due to massive fibroids I was told did not exist.

Doctor's can be very, very dismissive of these issues, make sure you are assertive and ask for a scan.
Alternatively, go private for scan. I think they cost around £80, once you have your answers you can go back to GP with them.
Good luck.

Blackopal · 30/03/2021 09:23

Ha! Just saw your update!

Should have RTFT before starting typing furiously Grin

Cherry889 · 30/03/2021 09:27

I had an ultrasound and transvaginal scan yesterday and had to drink 1 pint of water 1 hour before. I often need to use the toilet quite often but I was fine and after they had carried out the ultrasound I went and used the toilet so try not to worry about that.

yessun · 30/03/2021 10:02

Did you have a c section op? I had this after the birth of DC2 up until falling pregnant with DC3, which took 2 years. I didn't go to the Dr because I was worried I'd be dismissed. I did actually do some research and found stuff about c section scar defects which can cause big clots and infertility. When they opened me up again they found the original scar was in awful condition and they repaired it all. Have had no more clots since.

You have my sympathies, I'v ruined many clothes/ bath mats etc with clots like the one on your picture.
