I'm married 47 and my coil needs to be replaced or removed. Not sure if I should get a new one - have not very much sex, haven't had the menopause but was highly fertile!!!
What would you do? X

following with interest as I’m in the same situation and have no idea.

Windyone · 16/02/2021 23:03

I’d get another one. I had a new one at 47 and the doc said they’d do another one after this one runs out.

WaveOverMe · 16/02/2021 23:05

They have a decent shelf life beyond 5 years, so I wouldn't say it was urgent. They're just only licensed for 5 years usage.

How would you feel if tomorrow you were pregnant? If gutted/devastated then I would get it changed, but you've probably got a bit of time yet.

I'm definitely getting another one, my mother only recently informed me that average age of menopause in her family is 60....😱

Purplewithred · 16/02/2021 23:08

I kept going with them right through menopause, my marina is part of my HRT.

A couple of years ago I met a lady who was 53, her kids had just both gone off to university and her husband had been preparing for some time to do all the things they'd wanted to do for years. I met her at an aquanatal class! Apparently she'd been rather shocked that she had been able to conceive.
I'd get another one!

Bit of a shocker - just gone to have a new coil fitted - my very experienced gynie couldn't remove the old one despite repeated painful tries! Apparently I was a real trouper - but still no luck!! So now options

Have a new one under general anaesthesia

Have old removed and investigated with a Hysteroscopy

Has kind of put me off the whole coil situation to be honest

Has anyone else ever experienced this situation? X

Yes, me. I'm 45, mine has been in for 12 years. I'm through the menopause 2 years ago. Last time gynae went to take it out she couldn't find it. It is there as was seen on a scan, it can stay where its at for all I care, I'm on hrt now.

Thx is there no problem leaving it in?
