Heavy, long periods. At my wits end!

Please could I have some advice because I'm currently at my wits end.

I had a laproscopy before Christmas. No endometriosis or any other issue. Ultrasounds. Healthy. No problems at all off you go.

I bleed 3 of every 4 weeks. I'm in pain throughout the month. I'm anaemic due to blood loss. Bleed and have pain after sex. Pain going to the loo. Etc.

The gynecologist has released me back to my GP. My GP has said to get a coil fitted and has told me to contact my local sexual health clinic to organise to have one fitted. They currently aren't doing face to face appointments due to Covid.

So I'm stuck with heavy, long term bleeding with no offer of any resolution. This is a situation that has been going on for over 15 years. I go through phases of trying to get it dealt with. Get told by my GP or specialists that there is nothing wrong with me. Give up, put up, get fed up, cycle starts again.

I've been on every type of pill and implant going.

Its draining. I feel crap and exhausted all the time.

Has anyone been offered any solution for the bleeding at least? I'm 31 and would like to have another baby at some point.

Must be very tough when no cause has been identified. Anemia can actually make bleeding worse. Have you been recommended an iron infusion? I have torrential bleeding due to fibroids and will have a myomectomy. Did you have an ultrasound to measure thickness of lining?

I had horrendous bleeding but it was because of a massive fibroid which I had removed.

I would insist on another investigation. Women don't bleed like that unless there's an underlying reason

So sorry that this has happened to you. It sounds like the GP is not of much help either if they can only suggest you go to a clinic to have the coil fitted.

The cause of the problems need to also be determined as well as treating the symptoms. Neither has happened here.
I would seek a second opinion from a gynae at another hospital (GP should refer you); its possible that they have missed endometriosis here and it can also present atypically. Pain during and after sex can be due to endometriosis and it can also cause heavy bleeding to arise. I have also had more internal ultrasounds than I care to mention and none of those ever detected the vast amount of endometriosis present throughout my uterine cavity.

I would not readily have the coil in such circumstances particularly as you have tried practically everything else.

I would also suggest you look at the BGSE website, details below:-

Keep us posted.

Hi also just wanted to say it is very possible that endometriosis could have been missed. Find a really good excision surgeon, BSGE link below. Also Nancy’s Nook on Facebook.
A regular gynaecologist could quite easily miss it. The pain when going to the toilet could be endometriosis on the bowel.
I have had two surgeries and my first was with someone who wouldn’t actually go near the bowel in case of issues and so I had to have another operation. Point being is that it is highly dependent on the surgeons skill.
Heavy bleeding can be caused by adenomyosis which is basically endometriosis in the muscle of the uterus.
My endo wasn’t seen on a scan (adenomyosis was though).. it did show on an MRI (severe cases can show).
I was fobbed off with pill and coil just months before a 4 hour surgery to remove endometriosis from 10plus locations.
Best of luck x

Well in short i would seek another opinion. It really sounds like endometriosis, I’ve been suffering for several years. Can’t do much at the moment due to Covid but I have pain meds and tranamexic acid which helps a lot!

it could be fibroids ask them to check
