HRT recommendations

Hi
Can anyone recommend a HRT that they are on? I'm on Progynova which I thought were great but a quick Google has said that they are only suitable for women who've had hysterectomy as they stimulate the growth of the womb lining), which can lead to endometrial cancer if the growth is unopposed. Eek! Idiot that I am I just went with what the Dr prescribed without doing any research.

That's dreadful. How did your GP make a basic mistake like that?

How long have you been using it on its own?

I don't think it's going to help to offer you suggestions because what you must do is go back to the drs and see a different GP who knows about HRT. Discuss it with them. There are loads of options and it depends on if you still have your own periods, how long ago they stopped, and if you should take tablet form, or patches, or gel. And which dose.

No one who has a womb is using estrogen only (or shouldn't be!)

Depending on how long you have used it, you might need an ultrasound scan to check the thickness of your lining.

I don't know how he made that mistake. I only discovered that I shouldn't be on it as I recommended it to someone and when they asked their GP for it, he said no, unless you've had a hysterectomy and explained why. I should have researched it I guess. I will discard the rest and get a phone appointment with the GP and research the next thing I get prescribed! Thanks for your advice Jingling.

It's your GP who ought to be researching before they prescribe!

How long have you been on this?

If it's anything longer than a year you need a scan. Have your periods stopped? Have you had any bleeding (not a period) while using this hrt?

I know it’s the GP’s responsibility to prescribe the correct meds but it would have been an easy thing for me to look it up and I would have seen sooner that it wasn’t right for me. I have been on it for about 6 months and have bled twice whilst on it, although not for s few years before that.

Your dr will probably (and should!) prescribe a course of progesterone (Norethisterone) to create a bleed so the lining comes away. The bleeds you had are most likely the lining shedding as it's become too thick. Hope it works out ok but do see a dr.

Thank God you noticed OP that could have been really dangerous. Unfortunately it is not the first time I have heard of it happening. One lady had to have a hysterectomy after 2 failed d&c's.

I have Evorel Conti patches which are oestrogen & progesterone.

What @ruby2019missyouJinglingHellsBells is right about a course of progesterone.

Just as a follow up to my original message, I thought I should add that I was referred to the hospital for a scan followed by a hysteroscopy during which they found and removed polyps. They were sent for analysis and I have been on tenterhooks waiting for the letter ever since. Today I received it and am relieved to find out that I don't have cancerous or pre-cancerous cells. What a relief.
