LLetz procedure

Following an abnormal smear and a colposcopy, I've finally 6 weeks later received a letter saying the biopsies suggest cell removal treatment - the loop procedure. I am a bit gutted but know this is all for the best to have this done, but wonder if anyone has had this and had mild sedation for it (remaining awake but chilled!!) I am anxious as when I had my colposcopy, after the procedure I had a bad fainting episode. I came round with an oxygen mask on and they were concerned about my BP. All handled very well, the staff were lovely, but it's now put the fear in me that similar may happen after the next procedure. I am prone to fainting, it's not unusual for me, though usually I am fight it (and feel way worse in the process!) I wonder if it's worth a call to the hospital to discuss? I definitely will have this procedure, it's next month, I just feel a little anxious given my experience last time.

Call the hospital op and ask
I've had the procedure but not under sedation though I understand completely why anyone would want to as I found it very traumatic

I also tested hpv+ again last year after 10 years of being fine so i fully expect to have to go through it again 🙁

I have had LLETZ 3 times over a time span of 12 years. I wasn't given sedation but it was done under a local anesthetic. The worst bit was the injection of the local anesthetic, the rest you couldn't feel anything for.

If you would feel more comfortable having sedation you can ask and see what they say. I don't know what they will say with covid ongoing etc...... they will want you in and out as quickly as possible I would think, but you should still be entitled to sedation.

@ramblingsonthego yes it's the anaesthetic rather then the actual procedure

Did they not give you glucose tablets to suck on while they gave the local? That should stop most people from fainting.

Comps83 · 20/01/2021 09:54

@ramblingsonthego no I wasn't offered anything like that

It is normally the adrenaline in the local that causes fainting, high heart rate etc....... if you wanted to you could take some glucose sweets with you and see if that helped. You only need 1 or 2 sweets not packets and packets lol. They gave me lucozade tablets every time I have had it.

sesamebreadsticks · 20/01/2021 12:16

Thank you for your comments, sorry I don't know how to tag. That's a good shout re glucose tablets. I started reading about the reaction to the local last night and even that made me feel funny Hmm I hate being so weak about things like this, but I've always been a fainter. I'm just concerned the experience last time will give me massive anxiety and the whole thing will be a nightmare. I'll call them and see what they say, but agree they will def want me in and out quickly!

I had mine done under a general, so had no idea what was going on. Could you ask for that?

Thanks, would rather avoid a general if poss, and would like to be in and out, but get the impression lots have a GA for good reason! Argh I just wish those biopsies had come back clear
