I had a EMCS in 2017, and started getting recurring pain on the right hand side about 12-15 months later.

It's a dull ache, with the occasionally sharp stab, painful to apply any pressure to the area, bending down and being scrunched up in any way is also difficult.

I've had an ultrasound to check my ovaries, a clear smear test and general things such as, painkillers, weight loss (50lbs putting my BMI at the low side of healthy) and ditching hormonal contraceptives.

I've been on the wait list for gyno referral for about 9 months now, the pain has steadily been increasing, until about a month ago it started to feel like there was pressure on my bladder. The odd feeling of needing to 'bear down' when passing urine, bladder feeling fuller than it is, plus the pain is, again, worse.

Hopefully will have results from a urine sample back tomorrow to tell me it isn't a UTI (fairly confident it is not.)

I just want to know what I need to do to get this sorted, its really impacting my day to day now, I'm tired all the time from waking up with the pain, I'm not sure what I should be asking or what I can do whilst waiting for my referral? Or has anyone had something similar?

Sounds like pelvic adhesions. I'm not a doctor by when I spoke to my gynae after having a 2nd ectopic pregnancy that I needed surgery for as I get pain in my groin area and upper tummy, like a band being stretched he said you're more at risk of developing pelvic adhesions after any pelvic and abdominal surgery, especially cesarean sections because it is open surgery and so many layers to get through. He also thinks I may have endo too due to the pain, but due to coronavirus at the moment I am not going to see a gynaecologist any time soon as I moved so i no longer have my wonderful gynae to talk to.

It doesn't particularly bother me too much but yours sounds debilitating so I would definitely speak to a gp. You can get adhesions on your bladder and bowels as they're most common areas that bind to other organs

I also had a c section x

Absolutely first thing came to my mind reading your post was as above - adhesions. I had similar symptoms. Maybe Try and source a physio for some myofacial release treatment , has helped me!

Thank you so much for the replies, I was starting to get a bit panicked with the added bladder issue!

I have the exact same pain, only I have been told it's caused by scar tissue after having my appendix out years ago. I get a lot of pain around ovulation right up until AF arrives. I had an ectopic pregnancy a few years ago and the surgeon said my ovary was fused to the scar tissue, which would have been causing the pain I described. It is annoying, I can't lie on my right side without feeling my insides are being pulled. If I lie on my front or side for too long while sleeping the pain wakes me up. There is nothing they can do about it apparently because removing scar tissue created more.

I’m going for an ultrasound scan on my lower left abdomen tomorrow. Been suffering on and off with pain in this area for the last few months. Bloods tests clear.

I’ve had two c sections in the past (youngest child is neatly 11). Wondering if adhesions could be causing my pain. It’s on and off but can be present for days on end. Can radiate to my back and buttock too. Is a burning pain sometimes, almost like a stitch. Right under my left hip, so osier of tuck my fingers under the hip bone when it hurts and the pain is right there. Feel like it’s a bit high for my ovary.

I’ll update tomorrow.

Sorry for typos!!

@crazyola As above it could be adhesions and the pain will get worse over time. I suffered for 14 years and got surgery to remove them in late 2019. But there could be another possibility of adenomyosis. Having a C-section specially if it was emergency is a risk factor. It can cause pressure on bladder as the uterus grows in size and becomes bulky. Most GP' don't pay attention to adenomyosis in ultrasound report. I had 4 done and none of my gp' mentioned it. I took a copy of the last one and the report clearly said it. It was only my Gynaecologist who took it seriously and offered me a mirena.

For anyone who is suffering from adhesions for years - please insist on surgery. Yes , surgery does increase risk for further adhesions but the removal surgery is usually laproscopic so the risk is reduced. Also surgeons use barrier materials if you already suffer from adhesions to avoid adhesions in future which further reduces the risk.
@whatsthatnow74 - I hope you get some answers to your issues but you cannot see adhesions on ultrasound. So if you have problems but your ultrasound is clear then discuss with your GP regarding adhesions.

I’m just back from the ultrasound scan. All clear. Frustratingly, the technician didn’t put the probe anywhere near where I get the pain (just below/ inside left hip). I told her that the probe hadn’t gone near that area and she said she’d looked at everything that it was possible to see and the area I referred to was ‘just bowel’. I’m relieved in a sense, but the pain is still there. I’m starting to wonder if it could be muscular or a nerve or something. I’ve noticed it sometimes flares up when I’m driving (it did in the way to the appointment!) and feels like a burning pain around the hip bone. In terms of it being bowel related, I don’t have any other bowel issues and the pain isn’t triggered by eating or diet. 🤷🏻‍♀️
