I have been thinking on having a copper coil fitted.
The doctor said this would be the best choice for me .
I have pcos . And take metformin for this.
Am I still okay to take the metformin ?
What’s everyone’s experiences with the copper coil ?

Same boat as you. PCOS, copper coil and I take Metformin.

I've had three different copper coils now. First was a 10 year that was removed after 18 months because it wasn't settling as the Dr thought it was too big as I'd not had a child.

The second was a five year one that was removed after 4.5 years when I wanted to try for a baby.

The third one I've currently got is a 10 year that was inserted 6 weeks to the day after my c-section.

The first insertion was horrible. My cervix went into shock and I hadn't prepared with any kind of pain killers. I'd gone on the bus and had no one with me so it was an absolute trauma getting home. I ended up in the loo at the health centre with chronic diarrhoea from the pain.

Second and third ones I made sure I took the good drugs (cocodomol plus some ibuprofen) about an hour before I went and all I felt was a slight pinch. I also had my now DH with me for those two.

The first coil my periods were super heavy for the duration. The first month I flooded badly and I was at a hen do weekend hundreds of miles from home. It was awful. The pain was shocking too. This was due to it not fitting well. Periods eventually became painless but I still flooded each month until it was taken out.

Second one the first period was heavier than usual and incredibly painful. I think it took a couple of months for the pain to gradually disappear and the periods settled down too normal levels.

Third one I've literally felt and seen no difference in either pain or flow! I think this is because I've now had a child and my womb is no longer fresh out the box.

I recommend it, despite my experiences. I can't have hormones because 1) I'm overweight and can only have the mini pill and 2) the mini pill/injection, etc send me bat shit crazy and turn me into a raving psycho

Oh and zero effects from the metformin as far as I can see

Absolutely great. I'm not on any medication though. I didn't want the mirena as I just don't want any synthetic hormones in me at my age. My periods are very heavy, but I tend to spot for three days then get VERY heavy for a day or two, then practically nothing. I'm 42 so it could be my age, but the copper coil does give you heavier periods. I get minor period pain. Nothing to stop me from doing anything though.

Hope that helps. I fully recommend, but obviously everyone is different.

I hope it's not your age as I'm 38 Grin

gave me terrible heavy long periods. either moved or was not placed correctly, fobbed off with months despite me complaining repeatedly about abdo pain and horrible discharge. Ended up with sepsis. I was 40, done with children. DH had the snip.

Four years could be quite significant for hormones though, don't you think? That said I think my mum said her menopause started at 50 and was over by 52 ish.

I had a copper coil fitted about 18 months ago, having previously been on the pill for 15 years. I felt so much better after stopping the pill that I wanted to try a non-hormonal contraceptive.

Having the coil put in was fine - uncomfortable but I didn't have any pain. I did take a couple of paracetamol before hand but not sure that helped much.

My periods are definitely heavier now than the withdrawal bleed I had with the pill (which I know is not technically a period), but the rest of the month I don't even think about it - there's no discomfort or sign it's even there.

I don't have PCOS and no experience with metformin so can't advise on that I'm afraid.

I've got one, it's amazing.

Slightly heavier periods, and having it in isn't nice (pe-children, post children I don't feel it Blush

Hormones send me mad and make me fat so I think it's the best thing ever!

I tell everyone to get one!

I LOVE it. I’ll never use another form of contraception now (long term marriage not likely to split). I have naturally light periods, so the copper coil has helped me to find it easier to use sanitary products.

Absolutely no side effects for me.

My pleasure!

DH has asked for a vasectomy for his birthday so I may not need mine much longer Grin
