Menopause

I'm after some personal experience/advice, hope someone can help.

If at 35 I'm getting irregular cycles (sometimes early, sometimes late) when before they were 28-30 days, mood swings, exhaustion that's not helped by sleep, poor/unable to sleep and occasional flushes, would you say that it could be early menopause?

There is a family history of early menopause too, with grandmother, mother and aunt all starting between 35 and 37.

It could be but I think it would be worth chatting to the GP because it could have another cause -thyroid issues for example can cause exhaustion (whilst also causing poor sleep), mood swings and irregular periods.

@TheNewMeIsHere Age of menopause is usually hereditary. It sounds as if you are in peri menopause. I expect in your Mum's day they didn't offer HRT but it's not the standard treatment for premature menopause (that's period stopping before 40, or called early menopause if they stop before 45.)

You need to see your GP for blood tests.

For more info look online at The Daisy network (charity for prem meno) and lots of good guidance on the website of Dr Louise Newson (just search on her site for early menopause.)

but it's not the standard treatment - silly typo should say NOW is the standard treatment.

When you say your female relatives started the menopause, do you mean their periods stopped then or started to change?
If their periods stopped at that age, it's premature menopause. This is a medical condition and the treatment is HRT to age 51 at least. Without it, you have a very big risk of loss of bone density, heart disease and dementia later in life.

Thanks for the replies. I've seen the GP for all the symptoms I've mentioned, they did bloods which included thyroid, all came back so they said it sounds like depression, I'm too young for menopause and increased my anxiety medication

I'm going to ask for a hormone test I think.
@JinglingHellsBells thank you for the links, I will take a look Smile
Family members all began getting symptoms before 40, much like I have now. My aunt had no periods by 45, my mum by about 48 and my grandmother had a hysterectomy at 45 because her symptoms were so debilitating.

Read the website of Dr Louise Newson and the mis treatment of women with ADs. and if necessary see a private meno consultant - they are all working now incl video.

You are not too young otherwise why would there be a condition called premature menopause? FFS
