How long did you bleed for?

I’ve had the levosert coil fitted for 4 weeks now, it’s similar to the mirena coil. It was fitted on day one of my cycle so the gynae gave me norethisterone for 5 days to stop my heavy flow expelling the new coil. So I had no bleeding while I was on that, then I had a normal 6 day period. But since then I’ve had spotting or red bleeding pretty much every day. We’ve only had sex twice since it was fitted but both times I’ve then bled a lot for the day following sex.

I’ve read conflicting things, with some saying to expect some bleeding for two months while others say the bleeding should stop after a few weeks.

Can anyone remember how long it was until they had at least a week of no spotting or bleeding after having the hormonal coil fitted?

I had spotting on and off and bleeding every 2.5-3 weeks with a mirena for a year until it bled itself out! I think they say about 3 months for it to "settle".

Thank you @emmathedilemma. Looks like I’m a bit premature being fed up after 4 weeks then Smile

6 weeks with mirena. Then I switched to 23-25 day between periods for next 3 cycles then to 33 day cycles. Periods changed from super heavy to medium-heavy.

@Literallyfedup Thank you. I’m really hoping my periods stop completely but I know it doesn’t happen for everyone. Any improvement is a bonus.

It might just stop for you. I have too many things going - perimenopause, adenomyosis, pcos. Everything is feeding the estrogen and heavy periods so I am lucky to achieve what I have with mirena. The best thing is that I no longer have the deadly cramps, I had to stop everything I was doing when I had a cramp which were too often and almost passed out on 2 occasion. Minor cramps now , don't even care about them ☺️.

4 years into 3rd Mirena - in the very beginning I seem to remember bleeding for about 6 weeks but research showed this really was normal. Not everyone can go the distance and quite a lot of people ask for removal before that point. I pretty much have no periods beyond a tiny bit of spotting until 4.5 years in so absolutely worth the initial disruption in my case.

Thank you @TheTeenageYears I’m getting used to the spotting and since I found extra long panty liners at Tesco it’s not bothering me as much. If I wear sanitary towels for too long I get thrush or little boils from sweating. Not great, so the panty liners are good. I had issues with the threads for a few weeks where they’d poke me all the time but they seems to have curled away now. I’m just waiting for the spotting to stop now....but I think I need to manage my expectations and just be patient.

Gosh @Literallyfedup The mirena was worth it then for you.
