Pelvic pain. Dr just said not to worry.

I had a mirena coil fitted 4 weeks or so ago. Been ok apart from continuous bleeding which is to be expected. Last night developed pelvic pain (which I can sometimes feel where my appendix once was) when in certain positions. Twice it had been intense and caught me off guard. Otherwise, not awful, just nagging and annoying. Spoke to GP on the phone this morning and she said the coil is unlikely to be the cause, and she spoke about when she had her coil fitted and she had cramps for months (these aren't cramps). Told me it's probably nothing and to not worry about it. I'm waiting for a scan which was requested a while back to check my coil is in the right place due to some brief heavy bleeding I had. Could be waiting a few weeks for this. AIBU to think that the Dr should have seen me and made sure there's nothing more sinister causing this pain? Or should I just wait it out? Never had pain like this before and I have a gut feeling it's not right.

Something is causing this pain and it is certainly in your interests to find out the cause. BTW was appendicitis actually determined when you did have your appendix out?. Sometimes the appendix is taken out when endometriosis is actually the underlying cause of pain.

I would ask for a gynae referral and to my mind you should have been seen. The GP also saying that its probably nothing, talking about her own cramps (you state these are nothing like cramps) and it being nothing to worry about is not a helpful response to say the least.

I think drs are a joke with these things. I've been having problems all year. Periods are heavy. Spotting. Pain in left side of pelvis. Sometimes I'm scared it's going to suddenly become agony. Yet they are obsessed with calling me anxious.

You should be seen when you have pain. It shouldn't take so long.

It does sound like when I got my coil. Weird pains that moved around and weren’t cramps. They stopped after a couple of months, though mine was a copper coil so slightly smaller than mirena.

Ugh get another gp! Seriously, dismissing pelvic pain is so common and so sexist!

I had a laparoscopy and my (male) surgeon found endometriosis but he couldn’t be bothered because the patch was ‘small’ (which can be still really painful). When I questioned him he said ‘everybody feels pain’

Get your Mirena taken out. Could easily be it just doesn’t suit you. If you still have pain go to a decent gynaecologist and make sure they cover endometriosis and pelvic congestion syndrome. Don’t let them fob you off.
