Pelvic floor trainers?

Hi,

TL;DR: kegel 8 vs elvie - which is best for postpartum pissing?

Just wondering if anyone had any experience with pelvic floor trainers?

I just had 3rd baby in June and pelvic floor extremely weak and feel like I might have a mild prolapse (feel a bulge but nothing protruding)

Obviously I should see a doctor but I can't get an appointment at the minute with covid. Haven't been able to have 6 week post partum checkup either. Was due to see a physio specialising in womens health but that has now been postponed also due to covid so was looking at using a pelvic toner to see me through. I can't walk up the stairs without peeing myself, and its making me so self conscious and miserable so I desperately need to try something until I can manage to get an appointment anywhere.

The Kegel8 and Elvie trainers both looked good but are a bit pricey, so just wondered if anyone has any experience with them and if they work? I'm a bit dubious about any reviews I've seen online because they've all read extremely biased.

Used both I find the kegel 8 much better but it is time consuming. 45 mins a day at first.

Have you tried the Squeezy app just for the basics first? That's basically all the Elvie does.

No I've never heard of that, ill check it out thank you. I'll give that a go then and try out the kegel8 as well. Thank you!

I came on thread to recommend Squeezy app too.
If you find the contractions difficult to initiate at first try them in crook lying (on back with knees bent and feet flat); app will probably recommend best way to start and then progress.
Good luck

I also suggest squeezy app. I did have an appointment with a pelvic floor physio (huge delay and it was via telephone due to lockdown) and she talked me through how to do pelvic floor exercises properly- seemingly I had been doing them wrong for 20 + years! She told me to:

  1. download the squeezy app
  2. set it for 5 second holds, 2 second relax
  3. set to repeat 4 x a day

The app reminds you to do them and there is a circle on screen that tells you when to squeeze and when to relax, after the long squeezes it does a session of quick squeeze & release. It’s so easy to forget to do exercises or think ‘I will do them later’ if you don’t have the app. I initially thought it wouldn’t be any good but it really does help.

I now do it minimum 4 X a day, every day and will do for life, sometimes I will add a couple of extra sessions on if I’ve extra time or if I think about it.

Life changing within 4 weeks. When she phoned for the follow up I happily agreed to continue by myself and be discharged.

Now to the technique
I had always read that you squeeze as if stopping the flow of urine. However you actually need to squeeze your anus too. The pelvic floor is like a figure of 8 so if you just do the stop urine squeeze you are missing half the muscles.
She told me to sit on a hard kitchen chair and pop my hand underneath my bottom and, When doing the Squeeze, my bottom should lift away from my hand and to squeeze bottom first, then the front part should follow.(This was just to test I was doing them correctly. You don’t have to sit with your hand under your bottom every time you do them)

I hope that makes sense. App below

I’ve just done the holistic core restore programme with a trainer over zoom and it was fantastic - I had been using the squeezy app but feel that the support, understanding of my core and pelvic floor and the results I got from HCR were far better.

Thank you all. I downloaded the squeeze app and have found it very good, and the videos really helped to... going to see how I get on with those for a while before buying a trainer so thank you for saving me money!

Hi, I know this is an old post but just wondering about an update and if the Holistic Core Restore programme really made a difference. I am looking into starting this programme too and would love more feedback x
