Weird Uterus?!?!

Hey everyone,

I've jumped on here to hopefully find someone who can shed some light on a weird/interesting thing that's happening to me.
I have done extensive googling and literally found nothing on this particular thing and it's stressing me out not being able to find anything so here's hoping MN's to the rescue!

Brief history: I am 30 years old. I had an appendectomy April 2019, very traumatic experience due to misdiagnosing and hospital not believing i was in paid. Appendix burst, very ill... made a full recovery and everything fine until September 2019.

In September i suddenly started having irregular periods and had a monster period. Since then they have been getting lighter and lighter, they are still very painful.
I have also had excessive bloating, foul smelling gas, night sweats, extreme anxiety, acne, difficulty losing weight, pelvic pain constantly, especially when going from sitting to standing for some reason.

Went to the doctors in October, got told IBS. Pills didn't work so went back in December, did some blood tests and had an US, everything came back normal. Found out i have a retroverted uterus but no biggie. Got told IBS.

At this point i thought okay, maybe it is IBS, and i did FODMAP and everything else. Nothing helped.

Went back to Doctors in July, more bloods, everything normal but had low iron, got told to take iron tablets.

Went back to Doctors in September, more bloods. Everything normal but my hormone profile is now very different to the one in July, i'll add figures below;
LH - 8.9
FSH - 8.2
Oestradiol - 123
Prolactin - 279

I also had an US, this has come back normal but requiring a follow up. My US was done on day 7 of menstrual cycle, my endometrium measured 4mm. Now here's the weird part:
My uterus is now anteverted and measures 31mm x 46mm x 45mm.

I literally have no idea what this means but i know it's not right based on what i can find online and standard measurements and why on earth would it have moved?!?

Does anyone have any idea what is going on with my insides?

So sorry for the long post but i felt like you need all the info, thanks if you made it to the end :)

Oh and just to add, my US in December stated that my uterus was retroverted and normal sized with an AP fundal diameter of 35mm.

Whenever I see the words "painful periods" I think of endometriosis. Has anyone ever mentioned this to you?. Its not picked up readily if at all on ultrasound scans or via blood tests and it can be misdiagnosed too as IBS.

The normal position is an anteverted uterus, where the uterus tips forward, whereas a retroverted uterus is angled slightly posterior. The uterine position is also sometimes described relative to the location of the fundus; that is, an anteflexed uterus, which is normal and where the fundus tilts forward.

Re your July blood tests, what cycle day were they taken on?. Has the possibility of thyroid problems or PCOS been mooted?.

If you are not already under the care of a gynaecologist then I would be insisting that you are referred to such a person. Such problems are outside a GPs remit and what they have tried to date has not worked. You need a diagnosis first and foremost.

Nobody has ever mentioned endometriosis, tbh I’ve had a bit of an issue with the doctors taking me seriously because I have a high pain threshold and ‘present well’.

I don’t have an issue with having an anteverted uterus at all, my issue is the fact it was retroverted, and has since become anteverted and I don’t understand why that would happen?

Both sets of blood tests were taken day 3/4 of cycle. I think thyroid issues have been ruled out but in terms of any gynaecological issues there seems to be a reluctance to acknowledge anything.

It’s clear from the latest US report my uterus has changed position and is measuring wrong. My ovaries appear ‘normal’.

All my results keep being labelled ‘normal’ but something is clearly wrong and I feel like I’m going mad!

If all your problems started after your appendix surgery then it could be adhesions. Similar to endometriosis where your organs bind together with endometrial tissue , adhesion binds organs and form after abdominal surgery. Difference between adhesion and endometriosis is endometriosis discomfort usually follows your periodic cycle while adhesions cause issue and symptoms throughout the month but more when you have stomach issues (constipation, diarrhea, bloating) and also during periods. Adhesion symptoms are usually confused with IBS.

Ok you need to push to be seen by a specialist in endometriosis. I was rushed into hospital this year with suspect appendicitis, a week in hospital thinking it was a number of things. They did find an infection in my bowel however they think it was from bleeding and adhesions
For 10 years I was told maybe I have ibs etc
Finally ,after falling incredibly ill, diagnosed with stage 4 deep infiltrated bowel endometriosis

I am currently waiting for appointment with gynaecologist re suspected endometriosis and when I read your post I thought endo (after looking into it massively recently!). I have been to A&E with suspected appendicitis, been sent for CT scan for suspected kidney stones/problems and had ultrasounds but nothing showing.

Also, I think position of uterus depends on sonographer - I had a MMC earlier this year and ongoing issues, my uterus seemed to be different each time depending on the sonographer! I have no clue which it actually is! One report said 'retroverted anteverted' so is both apparently! Lol! I have pictures on my phone of 3 of the reports - 23/08 Anteverted, 30/08 Retroverted, 27/09 Retroverted. I'm taking it as tilted. xx

Hi, thank you everyone for your responses.
I have also though it’s Endo or possibly adhesions.
I had a follow up with the GP today and it wasn’t very helpful but after reading your responses I pushed for a gynaecologist referral which she has begrudgingly done so fingers crossed I can get sorted.

I’m actually in a lot of pain at the moment in my right side, no idea what it is but isn’t it awful that I’m hoping it gets worse so I can go to a and e and finally get taken seriously?

When my appendix burst they told me it was ovulation pain so I just feel completely distrustful of my local hospital and the GP and the fact they don’t take women’s health concerns seriously 😐

I am 100% with you! A&E found nothing but were very thorough and helpful to an extent, but my GP was a joke - said it is muscular or bursitis and prescribed me several months worth of very strong painkillers which I try not to take because it's masking a problem rather than getting to the bottom of it in my opinion.

I am in constant pain on my right side - feels where my appendix is but then radiates basically up and down my whole right side.

Glad you pushed for referral! Good on you! Keep us posted, and i'll keep you posted on mine too :) xx
