Why is my tummy / abdomen so big? (Pics)

So I'm a size 10/12, eat fairly healthily and do a lot of walking but my stomach area is always huge and bloated. My ribcage is fairly small and I wear a 30" bra but my waist comes outward from there quite visibly.

I suffer with unpredictable periods so that could be part of the blame but all my ultrasounds are normal.

Any ideas

Does the bloating ever go down? Has your gp done any blood tests? xx

NicholasTopliss · 03/10/2020 13:44

Is it gas or hard?
When did you last have a scan?

Could you have separated abdominals? Google how to test for it online. It can cause bulging

BewilderedDoughnut · 03/10/2020 14:10

Try a whole-foods, plant based diet.

paintmywholehousepink · 03/10/2020 14:18

Because tummies are that shape.

Gertiegumboot · 03/10/2020 14:20

You should get permanent bloating checked by your GP op. This article, sorry for provenance, explains why.

You are probably too young for it to be anything sinister, but a quick scan of ovaries might be good idea. And are you up to date with smear testing etc?

AllBellyandBoobs · 03/10/2020 14:22

Mine looks like that and our measurements seems fairly similar. I have diastatis recites following pregnancies, mine are split both above and below my belly button

Endometriosis could be a possibility. Unpredictable periods and bloating are symptoms. For me the bloating comes and goes. Endometriosis rarely shows up on scans.

JunoJigglewick · 03/10/2020 15:39

Firstly, are you certain it is bloating?

Secondly, if it is does it ever go down?

I suffer from trapped wind when I eat high FODMAP food - garlic, onions, mango, nectarines, all sorts. It is painful and I can look about 7 months pregnant the day after I eat even a tiny amount of it.

walkingout101 · 03/10/2020 17:01

Thanks for all the suggestions.

I'm 33 and gave birth two years ago. I do feel like I have some stomach musclr separation.

I get constantly bloated, worse with period and ovulation and worst in the evening after eating. It does go away a bit in the morning but I mean it's not painful then. I have a lot of abdominal aching.

I've had 3 ultrasounds in the last 6 months, all showed nothing much apart from ovulation, gp suspects possible hyper ovulation.

It all just aches so much and I can never do my trousers up. It's getting me down.

Do you have any other symptoms? Needing to pee more frequently? Getting full easily? You could ask your gp to check the muscles but if it’s your pelvis that’s painful you could push for a CT scan which will show more, and a blood test to rule anything out. It’s unlikely to be anything sinister but if your uncomfortable and it’s getting you down I would push to get to the bottom of it. If you are concerned it might be something to do with your ovaries you need to request a Ca125 test x

@walkingout101 I wonder, did you get any answers? I have the same problem as you and when I sit, I feel like everything is bunched up under my ribs. I have some abdominal pain and basically my stomach has been gradually growing since I have birth 4 years ago. I am currently awaiting an ultrasound. I wondered it it is to do with cysts but will see what happens once I've had a scan. I can't sleep on my side now which makes it very difficult getting to sleep! I hope you managed to find out some info that's helped you.
