Bleeding excessively

Got my period yesterday and the bleeding is so excessive that I'm worried. I've always had heavy periods but this is the worst it's ever been Sad they have got worse since having my first DC.

I'm soaking through a super tampon and a pad every hour and I've passed a few clots already. I know nobody can diagnose me over the internet but is this normal? When I'm changing myself it's like a scene out of a horror movie, blood all over my hands and legs.

I've no pain as such but I don't know if I need to see my GP or just let it pass?

I don't want to alarm or upset you, but is there any chance you could be having an early miscarriage?

SeaToSki · 30/09/2020 11:28

That seems excessive to me, can you call the GP for advice?

WestTen · 30/09/2020 11:30

@Ohalrightthen No I definitely not pregnant. I haven't been having sex

@SeaToSki Would they be able to give me anything though for what you appears to be just a very heavy period?

The question is though, is it a really heavy period or something else.

I was always told that more than a tampon an hour was too much flow and should be checked

That does sound a lot. Is there another adult in the house? because I’d worry that you could pass out from loss of blood.

Tranexamic acid for example could help with the bleeding, so there are definitely things could be done. I’d ring your GP or 111.

Pachonga · 30/09/2020 13:54

Your doctor can certainly prescribe you something to help reduce the flow and also advise on any further treatment or investigation, so I would certainly make an appointment for today, if you can. Periods do change after childbirth but you don’t have to put up with this, OP.

For what it’s worth, my periods were once like this, maybe four of them in a row, first full day soaking through a tampon and a pad in an hour, by the end of day a bit lighter, then they regulated themselves and were much lighter. It was whilst I was losing weight so I assume it was connected to that.

Thanks everyone, I can't get through to my GP, the line is busy. I'm in a high risk coronavirus area so I suspect that's why.

I've gone through 3 tampons and pads since 9am this morning, and it doesn't seem to be getting any lighter. I feel okay in myself though, it's just the heavy bleeding at the moment

Update: no GP appointment available until next week Sad

Did you take the appointment, OP? At least then you can get some advice and medication in case is happens again.

I see this was a few days ago now so you probably have this sorted but just to say you should really get this checked out if you haven’t already done so.
My GP prescribed traexamic acid and mefanamic acid (spelling?) to help with heavy bleeding.
(Since had several procedures including ablation but the meds helped in the short term)
