Implant pain

Baby boy is now 3 months old and I decided to have a contraceptive implant put in. I've had one previously and had no problems, it was really convenient etc so it seemed like a good choice this time.

I had it fitted on Tuesday morning. No pain at the time as the doctor gave me a local anaesthetic. She warned that it might bruise but didn't say anything about any pain.

It was absolutely fine until Tuesday evening when baby kicked it while feeding, that hurt a bit but did pass.

Since then it has been hurting more frequently, any time my arm brushes against something (usually my own boobs as the implants on the inside of my arm), or if I lift anything or even tense the arm slightly. What I'm lifting doesn't need to be heavy to cause the pain.

Pain only lasts 5-10 minutes each time but I think it's getting more painful rather than better. It's getting difficult to hold / lift baby, which isn't ideal when you're on your own all day with a small clingy one.

Is this normal? I don't remember any pain last time, and I was expecting it to be better by now.

Mine were like this. I didn't touch my inner arm for nearly 6 years. Couldn't have anything knocking it, or let a box rest there. Still get phantom pains even though it's been out for a long time. Both were well embedded close to muscle and the removal was challenging for the doc, to say the least!

Ohh no @BobbinThreadbare123 did you have it removed early?

Yep, but not because of the discomfort. I got fed up with the excessive bleeding, weight gain, ridiculous spots etc on it. Some of the issues the implant caused have still not gone away; if I'd been asked after the first one I'd have said I was happy, but implant 2 was a nightmare.

I’ve had four (maybe five?!) and have certainly had pain when lifting heavy things.
