Does this sound like peri menopause to you?

I honestly should know this but thought I'd double check in case I'm completely off beam

I'm 49 in two months time. Up until 2 years ago I had normal periods. They arrived on the dot of 28 days, lasted 5 days, were light and pain free. And this was the case for 34 odd years!

Two years ago, they became heavy and I would flood etc. I saw a dr and had a scan a year ago and all normal - no fibroids, nothing. So that's been the case ever since - heavy periods lasting 6 days and coming between 25-28 days

Until 2 months ago. I came on 5 days early and it was just a sludgy brown for 4 days and not heavy. And now I've come on a fortnight later - so a good 13 days early and again, it's like the last days of a period - not bright red.

So I'm asking .. is this normal? There's no pain, it's just another change and I'm wondering why

Thanks in advance

I would Keep a regular diary if you’re not already. Given your age it could well be peri-menopause. I would see how it goes over the next month and go back to the doctors. If finances are an option I’d look at private gynaecologist.

Following with interest. Previously periods were 6-8 days, heavy flow for the first 3ish.

Over the past few years, becoming lighter (sometimes still quite heavy first day) and shorter. Increasingly so over the last year/18 months.

Cycle still seems regular, but this time not had a ‘proper’ period yet, just a small sporadic brownish flow.

I’m 39, so young for perimenopause I guess, but with occasional massive hot flushes too I’m beginning to wonder...

Be bloody glad if it is!

You're not too young. At all. Peri can last for well more than a decade. I started at 40. HRT is a lifesaver.

@Aquamarine1029 thank you! That is incredibly helpful and could explain a lot, including night sweats and why I’ve started having the odd anxiety attack despite being fine (with medication!) for the last 15 years+

Thank you for taking the time to post that, it’s very much appreciated. Hope it helps OP as well.

Yes it might be. I stated quite early, only sort of confirmed via private hormone testing last year but symptoms present last 4 and I’m 44. My Mum had a bad time with it, we both have endometriosis. You could have testing. Make sure you look at all the research on any options you choose to take, esp HRT. I also second keeping a diary, it’s really helpful.
