Sorry for this a bit tmi...

For the last few years.. yes years I’ve been battling with thrush!

When I was younger it never bothered me but I came off all contraception when my son was born 7 years ago and felt good.

I got divorced 5 years ago and got myself in incredible shape!! Also got the coil the hormone one. Then every month after my period I would get thrush. I’ve had everything including tablets which made my lips on my face lol swell so had to stop them!

In between all that I got an infected Bartholin cyst which I had never heard of!! But I had a lump since my son was born so thought it was a prolapse lol. So now every year I’ve had a cyst appear and get it drained it’s a pain in the vagina!!!!

From never having issues to non stop issues wtf!!!!

I went onto the progesterone only pill and my thrush eased however still got periods and felt not myself. So I’ve come off the pill two weeks ago, got my period and then thrush!!!!
I’ve been tested for stds in the past and all negative and a test came back that I had a high candida count. I’m just over it all.

Should I now go back on the feckin pill just to ease thrush symptoms 🙈 gp doesn’t know either I get the feeling it’s trial and error!!! Fml

I've not had it since I stopped sleeping with men (probably not helpfulGrin ). Are you on any medication? Not just antibiotics, a lot of meds can upset balance. Balance active from the chemist works wonders on me for other random vag issues too. If gp isn't helping, go to a drop in GUM clinic. They know their stuff even though it can be a bit embarrassing.

Have you been tested for diabetes? Thrush is a symptom.

nicky7654 · 10/08/2020 09:18

If you can cut out all sugar and yeast for a month. It's hard to do but you may find it stops the attacks.

I’ve been to the gynaecologist lots of times at hospital for my Bartholin cyst and thrush. I was told to use cream only as the tablets were giving me side affects.

I’ve had blood taken for my cyst and nothing came back.

On my last pill I think I had thrush once and it wasn’t full blown it was just a little! I have no other side affects for diabetes. Bloody hells bells!!!!!

Also had the same partner for almost 4 years and I’ve made him take the thrush pill in a few occasions too 🤷‍♀️

I’m not on medication. I don’t know if I’d be able to cut out all sugars 🙈 I’ll give my body another month so I get a natural period after my pill and if I get thrush again I’m going back to my gp! 😡😳

Agree with @frazzledasarock. Get checked for diabetes at the GP. It's nothing to do with eating sugar

Kel9 · 10/08/2020 11:08

A diabetes check is the only thing I’ve not had done! It’s worth a try! X

Bit of a late reply... I used to suffer from this almost every month. Switched to a menstrual cup (after a lot of 'ewwww, no thanks..' moments). Not had even a hint of thrush since. Think it must have been caused by a reaction to so things in tampons. Hope you get sorted - I remember the horrendous painful mess! Using a menstrual cup had other benefits too - shorter, pain free periods, no leaking ever, deuces cramps and obviously a one-off cost (once used to it they are AMAZING).

Kel9 · 24/08/2020 09:33

Aww well I thought it might have been pads/tampons I might try the cup actually I’ll try anything at this point xx

You can get a diabetes check at the chemist, it's really worth doing, you may not be actually diabetic, could be pre-diabetes or insulin resistance.

My thrush symptoms have completely disappeared since going low carb, I have PCOS and insulin resistance and my body just cannot handle bread, potatoes, pasta or rice so I've had to get rid of those from my diet in the main, having pasta very occasionally.

I have suffered from chronic thrush for YEARS. It happens over ovulation and is always awful and I feel terrible.

Two months ago i started taking a vaginal pessary called "Canesflor probiotic vaginal capsules £15pcm". They're an absolute game changer. I now order them once a month.

I also started taking probiotic tablets every day- Bio Kult- Candea and Bio Kult- advances multi strain £30 for two month supply for both tablets. I haven't had thrush for 2 months and I have previously had it once a month since I was 14 years old! I got them off amazon.

I've been so many gynaecologists and the last one I saw told me about the Vaginal tablets. I also swapped to a moon cup and try not to have vaginal sex the week leading up to ovulation to keep things at bay, but I've had my children so don't need to have sex when ovulating.

Good luck and I really hope you get the help you need.

Workingmum34 · 24/08/2020 09:51

Are you definitely sure it’s thrush? I have been getting what I thought was thrush (all the usual symptoms) and the doc (without looking) has been prescribing the usual treatments. Went for my coil changing last week and the nurse worked out I had lichen sclerosis, prescribed me a steroid cream and another cream and it’s been a miracle change!

One things she did ask me though was how often I checked myself with a mirror - never- apparently easier to spot!

FallingIguanas · 24/08/2020 09:54

How old are you OP? It may be related to peri-menopause and reducing hormone levels. Look at vagina atrophy. See if this fits. HRT or topical oestrogen may be your answer.

BertiesLanding · 24/08/2020 09:56

I second reducing/cutting out sugar.

MorningNinja · 24/08/2020 10:02

I was prescribed Itroconozole by my GP. I took it every day for a few weeks and that sorted me out after 9 months of thrush hell.

Goid luck OP.

Kel9 · 24/08/2020 10:29

I’m not on contraception just now as I think the hormones don’t help me. I know it’s thrush because I’ve been tested a few times in the past and it’s always positive for thrush. I was prescribed the oral tablets but I had a reaction and my lips would swell (mouth lol). I’ll maybe look for some of those tablets online the probiotic ones. X
