Endometrial ablation - what to expect

Hi please could anyone who has had one give me an idea of what to expect? I have one booked for Thursday and am worried I haven't allowed for enough recovery time as we have a lot planned next week - building work means we will need to be out of the house during the day Monday-Thursday.

Also, how effective have people found it to be? Any information would be greatly appreciated!

I was on my period when I had it done and don't remember it being an issue. Hope you get a good result

Thanks for the replies everyone - this has been such a helpful thread! It looks like generally people have had very positive outcomes. I'm very excited about the prospect of my periods becoming a non-event - they dominate far too much of my life at the moment.

Hope it goes well!

I'm back now.

Something happened with the saline solution they used during the procedure - the amount they put in didn't all come out so I now have a really painful bloated stomach. Apparently it will gradually die down - but I'm so uncomfortable - I can barely walk!

I had to stay overnight in the end because of the saline and also my blood pressure dropped. I was nauseous to begin with but that has died down now.

I think it will take a few days at least before I feel normal.

Good thing is the procedure itself went well. I had an endometrial resection which is slightly different to an ablation but apparently the end results are more effective. Fingers crossed - this better bloody be worth it!!

@WokusPocus
I had a reaction to mine, with gas and air but after the watery discharge ended I haven't had a period for 5 years, occasionally I get a red tint, but you mentioned about PMT and bizarrely mine has completely gone away which doesn't necessarily make sense but it's great to be period free

Are you having Novasure?

DameXanaduBramble · 31/07/2020 13:31

Had mine with no pain relief, two nurses holding my hands, it was the most painful 72 seconds of my life but i was back at work the next day. Two weeks off, wowzers.

Wishing you a quick recovery. All over now.
