Prolapse?

gave birth just under a month ago and am really worried I may have a prolapse. My son was born after being induced and they used both ventouse and then forceps to get him out. I had an episiotomy which has healed quite well on the outside and the stitches look to be healing on the inside too. I thought it was all going well but when I looked the other day i noticed fleshy bits inside the opening of my vagina (at the top and bottom). I don’t remember if these were there before and am now paranoid I’ve got a prolapse. Are these what people describe as a bulge which is a symptom of prolapse? K don’t feel a heaviness in my vagina - just more a sensation of there being something in there, like an air bubble. It’s not uncomfortable but just feels different.

My pelvic floor is definitely weakened. I can still feel it to do you exercises and haven’t been leaking at all but can’t stop urine mid flow when on the toilet.

I’ve spoken to my GP and she said to wait until my 8 week check up as they would only prescribe pelvic floor exercises at this stage anyway, which I’m already doing. But I really just need to know either way.

I’m breastfeeding and don’t know if that would affect things or if 4 weeks is too early to tell. Has anyone else had similar experiences and does it get better over time?

Sounds like a cystocele, which is a bladder prolapse through the vagina wall. I noticed this not long after my son was born. It does improve with time, mine is worse some days than others. Worth the GP having a look but too early now as things are still settling

Thanks felicitybob. I was wondering if it is also A rectocele as there is also a fleshy bit at the back of my vagina. I was thinking of calling Gp again as it’s The not knowing that’s causing me the anxiety!

I think it's too soon to call! You are not fully healed, your muscles won't be up to strength yet.

The areas where you were torn or cut will be a bit lumpy for a while yet.

I wouldn't expect to stop urine mid flow yet either.

If you are basically functioning ok, then I'd wait. You'll be due a six week check when you can ask.

Try not to worry, it's such early days

It will get a lot better with time

Too soon to do pelvic floors so just focus on your baby for now and try to forget about it

(Speaking from a lot of experience!)

Hi

I just saw a women's health physio and she was great. I don't have a prolapse - what I was worried about is just tissue from the vaginal wall. She did a thorough assessment of my core and pelvic floor and I'm seeing her again for a follow up appointment. if people are worried I would definitely recommend seeing a professional rather than doing a google search.

She explained that even if had been a prolapse there is a lot you can do in strengthening core and pelvic floor.
