Brown discharge and worrying symptoms

Hi all!
A friend of mine told me to post here as I've been going out of my mind.

So for about 2 months I've been getting super watery dark brown discharge, it started off as thick and stringey and I passed black pieces of tissue. Fast forward two months and I'm still getting the discharge on the daily but this time watery.
I HAVE to wear pads as it stains my underwear otherwise. Along with this I've got absolute severe pain in my stomach.

I haven't had a period since the 19th May, and even then I was crying in pain as it hurt so bad and it only lasted 3 days.

Just to inform I've been to the GP a few times and A&E because of the pain. Been given an internal ultrasound and swabs and tests and it's all coming back normal!

Going out of my mind because this is all clearly not normal and I'm only 21. My pregnancy tests have been coming back as negative and I'm really worried. Sex is so painful, but my main symptom is the belly ache.
I'm going to ring the GP again today, only last time I saw one she made me cry and basically said they can't do anything other than refer me to gynae and
there could be a year long waiting list.

Has anyone ever experienced similar? Please tell me what you would do. This is really worrying me and I can't stop thinking about it as the pain won't let me.
Thank you.

So what explanation are they giving for the abnormal discharge...even if they are telling you all test results reading normal? There must be some explanation as to why it may be occurring? I would be pushing v v hard until I had an answer as to why all are saying 'normal' when clearly for you it is not at all...plus you are in pain. Can you afford to at least have an initial Consultant's visit privately? It might be a few hundred but I'd rather pay the money (& scrimp elsewhere) and get the ball rolling on a proper answer & an end to being in pain. If you can't insist on getting on that referral list & do all you can to push for an earlier appt. Go back to A&E if you are in pain still.... tell them it is not normal, you have pain.

They haven't given me one! They just said they aren't concerned and asked me what do I want them to do for me. As I've said to them lots of times I want an answer to what's going on. That's a possibility. I don't have a lot of money but I would pay to try and find out what's wrong with me 100%

Are any of the GUM clinics seeing people in your area? She might have more success with them as this is the area they specialise in and not just STDs x

They aren't unfortunately and told me to go through my GP

I’ve struggled with terrible periods for years, including symptoms you’ve described. I had a cervical smear and swabs for STDs, all came back normal so i insisted on a referral to a gynaecologist to look for endometriosis which runs in my family.
It has taken me 8 years of appointments to get to this point so I guess what I’m trying to say is you know your body, you know something isn’t right so go back and tell them in no uncertain terms you need help. It takes a long time for women’s health issues to be diagnosed and there must be an explanation for what’s happening to you. I really do sympathise! I’m on week 7 of bleeding and unusual discharge (really dark brown, sometimes very thick but sometimes watery, passing tissue, dull pain in my pelvis and back).
Good luck OP. I wish I had further advice but just go to the GP and refuse to leave Grin

Hi OP I suggest paying for an appointment with a gynaecologist. You can't go on like this for a year and it seems the GP/hospital don't think they need to do any more to help you. You will be seen in days/a week and hopefully will then know more. Have you had a smear?

Holothane · 15/07/2020 22:36

They should be testing or looking for polyps I had brown mud as I called it for months.

Rockinghorse2019 · 08/08/2020 19:31

Go back to your doctor and ask for a second opinion. I have had brown discharge light period for 2 weeks now and GP is sending me to gyne. Although I’m very worried .

AttilaTheMeerkat · 08/08/2020 20:37

My initial thought was endometriosis when I read your symptoms. Deep pain during sex is actually one of its main indicators as are very painful periods (mine only lasted a couple of days too). Have also had that sort of brownish discharge you describe also (the brown blood is "old" blood") along with stringy dark brown/red bits and this is also due to endometriosis.

Unfortunately many women have a hard time in getting diagnosed (I am one such person) with endometriosis and many women suffer for years before diagnosis too.

A & E should have forwarded you onto gynaecology when you presented with those symptoms. Instead you've been fobbed off.

Internal ultrasound scans and swabs do NOT detect endometriosis if it is there; it is usually diagnosed via a keyhole surgery op called a laparoscopy. I would return to the GP and insist most strongly that you are referred to a gynaecologist urgently. You should not have to wait another year to be seen. Do you have a Nuffield or Spire hospital near you; I say that as they have gynaes and you can self refer to one of them as a private patient for an initial consultation.

Also are you 100% sure you don't have a tampon stuck?
