I'm after some advice from wise mums-netters. I have two children and we are not planning anymore. After each of my pregnancies I had the copper coil which resulted in very heavy and often long lasting periods. I recently had it removed because of this issue and have started taking rigevidon (similar to microgynon apparently) which is fine however my skin is reacting badly to it and I'm suffering frequent bad break outs. To avoid drip feeding I was in microgynon for years before I had children and had similar skin issues but never severe enough to warrant a change. My GP is insisting Rigevidon has the same make up as Microgynon (but is cheaper funnily enough) so no point, in her opinion, changing back to Microgynon.

So my question is, what do other people favour for long term contraception? Any positive experiences with the Mirena Coil, hormone injection or mini pill?

I'm also interested in people's thoughts on long term hormone use. I'm in my thirties so a good chance this is something I'll be living with for 10+ years.

Thank you in advance.

I’m about to have my 3rd Mirena fitted. Bloody great, they are.

I used to have the injection which lasted 3 months at a time, but after a year they said my risk for osteoporosis was too high and I had to come off it. I now use the implant which lasts 3 years - no periods which is a bonus.

Interesting, I have a friend who swears by the injection so it's on my shortlist
