How to cope with heavy flow. Flooding a super tampon and pad within 30 mins

Avoidtheshameoffloods · 04/07/2020 21:15

Please help me.

My period goes like this;

Days 1-5 spotting/slight

Days 6-7 horrendous flooding/clots.
Used to be morning only (and only one day) but it’s gradually become all day.
Changing tampons/pads sometimes after 20 minutes.

Days 7-10 (or 12,14,16,18) spotting/slight

I can handle my periods lasting 12-18 days
but I can’t handle the 2 days of flooding.

I can change a super strength tampon and nighttime pad just before the school run and be soaked through my clothes when arriving home 20 minutes later.

So, I’m using tampax super plus and body form goodnight at the worst times and they’re failing me.

I only work part time, 4 hour shifts.
Previously changing before starting and immediately after was doing the trick but now it’s impossible.

I’m not supposed to have a break but am often excusing myself to sort this (which can take ages if I’ve leaked Blush)

Any advice? I’m 40.

Speak to the dr. They can prescribe tranexamic acid for heavy bleeding, it helped me.
Actually I think you can get it in boots otc.

TorkTorkBam · 04/07/2020 21:34

I got like that when anaemic. Definitely see a doctor for menorrhagia.

Mooncups hold more than tampons. I would use a mooncup and a super pad.

LoopyGremlin · 04/07/2020 21:35

I would also look at getting period pants. They have saved my bed from the night time floods.

KetoWinnie · 04/07/2020 21:36

Azalia

Go to the doctor and demand to be put on azalia back to back pill.

I flooded at home after work one day. My period had gone on for ten days at least and it was getting hard to deal with it but luckily I had managed it. Then at home on friday evening I flooded. I was just so relieved it hadn't happened at work though.

Also yes, tranexamic acid stops the heavy bleeding but you still get your period. So, I take the pill (at fifty) and have stocks of tranexamic acid as a back up as I still sometimes get a period despite being fifty and on the pill. My body is not letting me away with this lightly.

I agree with medication/speaking to the GP but in answer to your question continence pads are the best thing. There are some very discreet ones on the market now and they’re designed to deal with a lot of liquid in a short space of time, much better than sanitary towels.

HotPenguin · 04/07/2020 21:39

You really need to see a Dr about this, as that's an unusual level of bleeding. You ought to get checked out for any underlying problem and you also need some medication to control it so you don't become anaemic. And because it sounds a complete nightmare too!

DorisLessingsCat · 04/07/2020 21:39

Yes, go and see a GP. Tranexemic acid could help. Also this is possibly a side effect of fibroids which you would need a scan for.

You should not have to put up with this!

Beamur · 04/07/2020 21:42

Yes to all the above. Advice I need to take too as my periods have got progressively heavier over the last year or so.
I've just bought some period pants to help with nighttime flooding.
Crap isn't it!

compulsiveliar2019 · 04/07/2020 21:44

I agree with the transexamic acid. It really helps me - I bleed like that continuously if not medicated! I also use disposable underwear meant for incontinence. Not ideal but stops the risk of flooding underwear and embarrassing incidents.

You could try one of these in the meantime

Was always told if u flood a pad and a tampon regularly you are bleeding too much. I did and tried every pill on the market but eventually got an ablation in my early 40’s. Never looked back. You MUST see your dr so you can get sorted, there are options out there.

I just posted this link on another thread, you definitely need to see your GP, this is not normal and having experienced similar it was due to fibroids. The crunch point for me going to the Dr was not being able to make it through a 2 hour work meeting safely, or worrying every time i left the house where the nearest toilets were. It starts to take over your life and it shouldn't be like this.

Thesuzle · 06/07/2020 13:37

Hello and my sympathies, Ive had the same. If you are done having children i cant recommend enough a Microwave Ablation, if its still called that, had slight spotting in the month after, and not a period since, best best thing I’ve ever done

AttilaTheMeerkat · 06/07/2020 14:03

You need to see the GP and from that person get an urgent referral to a gynae. Such levels of bleeding are really not normal at all and its something that you should not have to keep on putting up with.

My estrogen and progesterone levels kept going up and down markedly in relation to each other and it was this that caused my heavy bleeding.

I went onto have ablation surgery (this is recommended only if your family is complete) following such bleeding and up until surgery I was bleeding every single day sometimes heavily with clots.

Try a GP instead of unqualified randoms on the internet.
