Ovarian Cysts

Hi

Has anyone had any experience of cysts?

Or managed to resolve them naturally?

I had a scan in Feb and a 6cm cyst was found, I’ve just had a follow up and it’s now 4.9cm.

I was a mess waiting on the results as due to major surgery in this area last year I nearly died and I’ve been suffering from PTSD.

I am now being referred back to the gynaecologist and my Gp has said it looked like they perhaps wanted to do a MRI scan on it and he said possibly something may need done but it may also be a case of waiting and seeing what it does.

Praying it resolves as as I don’t think I can take anything else happening in this area.

Anyone has any success with waiting?

Thanks

If a simple cyst has successfully reduced under 5 cm on a repeat scan then normally you are clinically discharged as the cyst is on course to shrink and finally go away.
May be your ultrasound is not giving a clear picture, either the walls are not clear and it cannot be certainly determined that it is a simple cyst. MRI provides a much clearer image.
It is not necessarily worrying but your GP wants to be certain before discharging you.
There is nothing you can do to make the cyst go away. Either it will go away on its own in few months or it will needs to be surgically removed. If the cyst is simple you can wait for a long time before opting for surgery.

Hi OP, I've suffered with ovarian cysts since I was 14.

Please try not to worry, I know it's hard, but at least the GP is aware of the cyst now and is monitoring it.

I had an MRI for it too. I'm pretty sure it's to see whether the cyst is benign & what type of cyst it actually is, but may be wrong.

It's good that your cyst has gotten smaller since your last appointment, sometimes they can shrink and go away by themselves.

There isn't really anything you can do to make the cyst go away unfortunately. If it doesn't shrink, it will need to be surgically removed if causing pain etc.

For reference, I had my first operation at 14 to remove a large dermoid ovarian cyst, right fallopian tube & ovary. Second smaller op at 21 to remove dermoid ovarian cyst on left ovary and half of my left fallopian tube. They were both benign cysts, but both caused significant amount of pain so couldn't be left without surgery.

Thank you both for your responses.

I guess I am just at the end of road with it all and the stress and worry of the last 2 years. I had a massive fibriod removed then a hysterectomy with one and now this and it’s just so worrying.

I guess I need to find a way to switch off until I get more answers. As I am sending myself round the bend.

I have looked online and on the nhs page about cysts and it seems a MRI isn’t the normal treatment pathway. Which is worrying me a little.

The sonogropher did say to me she was having trouble locating my ovary as all the usual markers (ie a womb ) isn’t there.
She did say she found it and it was still there but that was all she could tell me.
