Polyps giving me anxiety

Hi

I had an ultrasound to investigate heavy periods and they’ve found some polyps. I’m being referred for hysteroscopy within 2 weeks. The doctor said they are very rarely cancerous but obviously nothing is certain until they’ve been tested.
I suffer from awful health anxiety so I’m totally preoccupied about it and extremely worried. It’ll be weeks before they have been removed and test results given. How do I cope with the wait? How do I just get in with life for my kids?

I had one removed and all was good. Periods returned to normal once it was removed. Never even occurred to me that it might be cancerous.

Didn’t want to read and run. Another one here suffering from a health anxiety after surgery.

I don’t have experience of them but sending a hand hold I know how stressful it can be xxx

Penny31 · 03/07/2020 11:31

@GimmeAy Did they test it? How long did the results take to come back?

@Neverendin6 thank you. Anxiety is so debilitating and right now I could really do without it! Hope you are ok after your surgery

Yes they tested and said that if anything was wrong I'd hear within a week. There was nothing wrong and a letter was sent to my GP and cc'd to me about 10 days after if I recall correctly. They explain all to you pre-surgery as they call it - in person.

I had two - which were causing awful heavy periods. Went to the gynaecologist who just removed them during the appointment as mine were on the cervix on the outside.

It’s a bit like having a smear test - bit uncomfortable but took 10-15 mins max and all done.

Periods went back to normal the month after. They were sent off for a biopsy but all was fine and my doctor never seemed to think it would be otherwise.

Hope it all goes well

I had weird bleeding, had a hysterectomy and was found to have polyps. They did a swab which was sent off to rule out cancer (it wasn't). About 2 weeks later, I had the polyps removed. I was given a local anaesthetic to take the edge off but tbh found the whole procedure to be pain free.

Nothing to worry about. I've had worse smears. You'll be fine. Flowers

I had endometrial polyps removed done via general anaesthetic. Was told afterwards everything looked pretty good formal results about 6 weeks afterwards

Thank you. I can’t shake the feeling that I could be among the 2% that have cancerous polyps. I know it sounds ridiculous but it’s the way I’m wired! I suddenly feel like there is discomfort there and I’m exhausted.

I am telling myself the doctor knows that I’m anxious so has said they are polyps until further examination and really it’s likely to be more sinister.

It’s all consuming. I wish I wasn’t like this.

Try to distract yourself with something else. The more you allow yourself to think about it, the worse it will become in your head.

I have uterine polyps for 5 years, had them removed twice, once via hysteroscopy and again during surgery but unfortunately they’ve grown back, just my luck!! I too have awful health anxiety and got myself into a complete tizzy when they were first found, made myself feel really unwell. From what I have gathered from my gynae is they are more likely to turn cancerous after menopause. I now have the option of the mirena or mini pill to try and shrink them, I want neither but don’t want heavy periods either so am stuck between a rock and hard place! Good luck, it will all be fine.

Penny31 · 08/07/2020 06:19

Thank you. I too am making myself really ill about it. I haven’t yet gone through menopause. I’m 40. I’ve noticed my pelvic area feels quite uncomfortable and I’m bloated.

The polyps have dislodged my Mirena coil.

I can’t enjoy life because I’m so preoccupied, it’s really awful. I’m absolutely terrified.

Penny31 I know that feeling only too well, that kind of anxiety puts your life in hold and you feel you are living in a bubble, I had that last year after a cyst was found in my kidney, it was a horrible time. It will be fine. I’ve had 2 hysteroscopies with biopsies, they told me at the time the polyps looked ok but obviously needed the report to confirm and even that came back really quickly.

Penny31 · 08/07/2020 12:40

It’s such a relief to find like minded people!

I just hope my appointment comes through quickly and they can put my mind at rest there and then, before I drive myself mad.

My appointment has come through, it’s not until 12th of august. They can’t be concerned about it being anything sinister can they!?

It will be fine. Polyps are very rarely anything to worry about. Good luck for the 12th.

So they’ve just called to say the dr has cancelled the clinic that day and I have to wait for another appointment. I was already getting myself worked up about it because I’m experiencing heavy mid cycle bleeding and cramping. I have a coil that’s dislodged and feel like I’ve just been left hanging.

I rang the doctors yesterday (before my appointment was cancelled) asking if there is anything they can do because I’m bleeding and anxious. They prescribed tablets to stop the bleeding. They haven’t worked yet.

I feel so let down I’ve gone private and have a phone consultation on Thursday. I’m really hoping they can see me soon before I make myself even more I’ll! It’s affecting my life in every way, with my kids, work etc I just can’t put it out of my mind.
