Tired all the time

I'm nearing 40 and as the title says I'm tired all the time. I tried to get up at 7am this morning and couldn't wake until 8.30am. I've just dozed off on the chair now too for 20 mins.
I'm not a great sleeper. I wake a fair bit during the night and the heat at the moment isn't helping.
Has anyone gone through this and fixed it? Got their energy back? I know there are medical conditions that could be the cause and I plan to go see my gp soon.
Aside from coffee what can I do to bring my energy levels back? I don't do much exercise and I am overweight.
The last 4 years have been quite hectic and I'm wondering is it a built up sleep debt of sorts?

I think you need a blood test to see what of the standard things may be causing this.

Anaemia and/or B12 deficiency are very common. As is hypothyroidism.
Anaemia particularly for women pre menopause.

You need to get the blood test results from your doctor and research levels as many people have symptoms when they are in the bottom quarter end of the range (or high end of TSH).

If your dr is not doing or will not do a blood test then it is well worth paying for a private one. Your health and fitness is incredibly important.

Magnesium supplements are also helpful for sleep disturbance. Again, I would definitely do your own research on this, don't just read one site and don't rely fully on the NHS site - although it is a good place to start.

I take thyroxine as prescribed for hypothyroidism.

In supplements, I take vitamin D (all year round but double in winter)
Vitamin C (effervescent) and iron (Spatone - lowish dose but more bioavailable than tablets also upset digestion less)
Zinc - as NHS site flagged as low - for immune system.
Vit B12 (I have injections but oral is ok if you absorb it ok) Folic Acid to aid absorption of B12.
and
400mg of Magnesium Glycinate at night which aids relaxation and therefore sleep. I normally wake frequently during the night but find it easier to fall asleep again more quickly with the magnesium.

Thanks for the reply @IAintentDead. I did have my bloods checked a year or so ago and was due back early this year. I'll have to book in soon.

I feel like even the slightest disturbance in sleep really affects me the following day.
I went through after sleep with my dad when she was younger and I sometimes wonder is it my body just going... NOPE! NOT AGAIN!!

I am 43 and around 40 started feeling much the same as you. I discovered I had anaemia from B12 deficiency, rock bottom Vitamin D and Hypothyroidism. It is unbelievable common on women over 40.

I'll second the above post, you a company like Medichecks to get bloods done if your doctor won't do them. For thyroid, you need TSH, T3 and T4 to get a true picture of your thyroid and dare I say Thyroid antibodies as well. Medichecks send a blood test to your home and you take a sample from your thumb and send make. Results are back really quickly.

Since sorting out my Thyroid and vitamin deficiencies I have much more energy, I just wish I'd found out sooner what was wrong.

OP - What blood tests did you have done? If just a normal CBC it won't show if you have thyroid problems or vitamin deficiency unless say your B12 is so low its caused Macrocytic anaemia.

Yes I did have the ths leves measured. There was also a marker to say that I will eventually get hypothyroidism, which I dread.
I usually take a berocca every day for vit c and some other vitamins.
Did anyone find upping their exercise help with energy levels. Ive been fairly sedentary the last few years due to studying.
