Pea-sized lump appeared on labia

Morning,

I was inserting a tampon last night and noticed a pea-sized lump on my inner labia, near the entrance to my vagina. It is soft-ish and can be moved between my fingers. It's a bit tender to the touch. When I looked, it's a shiny, round, pinky-red lump, no head. It's less than 1cm across. It seems to have appeared out of nowhere.

I've googled Bartholin's cyst and I suppose it could be that although it sort of sits proud of the skin surface and, as I said, can be pinched and moved inside the skin on the labia.

I don't want to dash off to the GP, though I will if it doesn't go.

Any thoughts on what it might be please?

Ingrown hair?

whatsthatnow74 · 14/05/2020 11:22

@lightofthephoenix No, it's on the hairless part...

I get exactly these occasionally!! Mine go within a week. If it doesnt then maybe go to the gp but I think they are harmless and just caused by irritation.

Northernsoullover · 14/05/2020 11:27

If its tender its probably nothing to worry about. It may come to something and I have had them burst after a hot bath. The usual caveats apply. If it becomes really painful or you feel unwell seek medical advice asap. Just keep an eye on it.
I've had some disappear with no treatment and one I needed antibiotics for.
My friend had to have hers drained.

It's probably a cyst (I've had one) but see your doc if it doesn't go in a week or two just to get it checked out.

I had one and got it checked out not long after it appeared and was told it was nothing to worry about and that it’d probably go away on its own. About 15 years after I discovered it (with no change in that time) it started to get quite sore so I had it removed. It was just a benign cyst so nothing to worry about. Leave it for a week or so and then get it checked out.

Thanks all.

The way it just appeared makes me think it can't be anything sinister, but I'm a worrier so immediately imagine the worst!

I'll give it a week and then get it looked at.

I'm sure I've had this. Try putting a hot compress on it in the bath, think mine just disappeared again.

I get something like this from time to time. Always gone within a week. Xxx

MaryMaryContrary · 14/05/2020 11:49

I had this once and it was a bartholin cyst which was nothing to worry about and disappeared within a week. Might be worth you googling it and see if bartholin cyst fits the bill. Hope it improves soon for you.

Wherearemyminions · 14/05/2020 11:53

Have had this, it took a while to go, about 2 or 3 months but didn't change at all or get sore and just went away on it's own

whatsthatnow74 · 14/05/2020 12:04

Good to know that so many of you have had similar!

It sounds like it’s a little abscess or boil. I get them occasionally - they can get pretty sore! They usually clear up in a week or so. Some rupture, others go away by themselves. If it’s causing you discomfort the GP/nurse might lance it.

Avoid clothes that make you sweaty, eat plenty of vitamin rich food and avoid bubble baths was my GP’s advice
