Endometriosis management

I’ve heard that the implant is a good contraceptive for managing endometriosis symptoms. I’ve used the IUD Mirena before, but am wondering if the implant is worth a try. Any women out there used both? Opinions ...?

I tried the Mirena for a good few months, and I just couldn't get on with it. I had constant cramps (more than usual anyway!) and constantly felt sick. I've actually been put on a progesterone only mini pill now and I'm finding it much better.

I had about 8 weeks between having the Mirena removed and starting the pill, it was horrendous! Agony every day, bloating, and bleeding on and off.

Everyone is different though, so have a chat with your GP. It's worth a try.

I haven't tried the implant...the thought of it just makes me cringe.

I have stage 4 Endo and had the implant for 5 years (not the same one, it lasts 3).
It was a godsend for me. Stopped my periods completely and zero pain. Doesn't work for everyone, but it was only good things for me. Only took it out to ttc....whole other thread.

Thanks for the replies, that’s helpful.
@Pinkstars2501 did a specialist advise you on this decision? As I understand the mirena can slow the diesease progression, and I wonder if the implant is the same?

Hi, not really. Just my normal gp gave me the option so I thought anything was worth a try at that point.

Fair enough, thank you
