Pain & aching around 2nd degree tear scar 6 months postpartum

Hi there, looking for advice. Had my baby girl 6 months ago at home. Had a 2nd degree tear which agreed with midwives not to stitch. Healed ok I thought. Had other issues (mild rectocele & cystocele) and related constipation but otherwise ok and these seem manageable.

In the past couple of weeks have been getting increasing pain/aching around the tear scar (and deeper/higher on that side) which is becoming really hard to live with. Called GP who prescribed a numbing gel that’s not doing anything. Ibuprofen works sometimes not always. I’m concerned to take painkillers without understanding what’s causing the pain. I’m on my feet a LOT (also have 4.5 year old twins and caring for 3 kids during the Covid lockdown is intense) but I’m worried why this is happening. Feels a long time post birth to be experiencing tear-related pain? Could the scar tissue be inflamed or infected somehow? Thanks for reading 🙏

Couldn’t read and not respond. I’ve gas similar symptoms and gp said they wouldn’t really look further into it until 6 months postpartum so that does seem the marker around when they may believe birth issues start to subside ...

Thanks for responding. Well I’m just over 7 months postpartum and it’s still going on but I realised the pain actually felt more like nerve pain. On a google search it might be pudendal neuralgia or something like that. I told this to the gp who prescribed amitryptiline an antidepressant which when taken at low doses can dull nerve pain. It has massively helped although I have Tibetans these regularly... I also had a pelvic health physio appt by phone and am going to try suggested exercises. Hope yours improves 🙏

Good luck, sounds like you're doing everything possible. Also had the same realisation about possible nerve issues recently. Will look into it further. Take care
