Failed implant insertion

Hello

So I've tried to have a mirena coil fit in twice now and it's failed. First was tried by my GP, second by an O&G consultant and she even gave me an anaesthetic agent to help. Never had any baby or contraceptive before. I feel so deflated because this is yet another thing that others find easy but everything about me must be complicated. Have such shit luck.
Anyway, does depot make people add weight? And implant?

I was on depo for 10 years. I did put on weight during that time, but I think my unhealthy habits involving daily bottles of wine were to blame, rather than the hormones. Depo was great for me, no periods, yay!

Like you, I went to have the Mirena coil fitted. I suffered an excruciating 5 minutes before I gave up and asked the nurse to take it straight back out again. I won't try it again, ever.

The implant (the one that goes in your arm) was a breeze to have fitted, just like an injection. Having it removed was a bit of a scarier endeavour involving a scalpel and lots of blood, and it left a scar. I don't think I'd get one again.

All in all, depo was the winner for me.

I had the implant and it was the worst two years of my life. Felt completely deflated, periods and hormones all over the place to the point it was affecting my relationship, never stopped itching in my arm. Not to mention the extreme bruising on my arm getting it put in. It was only when I eventually had it out that I realised how much it was affecting my mood. Now have the copper coil and it's great. Bit of discomfort going in and cramps with my first period after were bad but months on, periods are normal, no cramps and feel like myself again without any hormones. GP wouldn't do it so had it fitted at a Sandyford clinic where nurses are doing it all day long. Imagine it's second nature there - was over in seconds and relatively pain free. Would definitely recommend a coil over implant if you're up to giving it another go.
