Bowel movements during period

I've woken up to it being 'that' time of the month again today and as always in addition to the awful cramps and leg pain I've also got the dreaded bowel issues. I've already been for a poo three times this morning and know I'll have to visit a couple more times before things calm down. I've taken my ibrufen so I know things will be better in an hour or so but just wondered if anyone else experiences the 'period poos'? Please get me through the next hour ladies!

Yep, every month! I think of it as an opportunity for a good clear out!

Sugarfreejelly · 16/04/2020 10:28

Oh gosh yes. I have terrible period poos. I have to take Imodium if I’m in work or I have to go to the toilet every half hour!

Riddlediddle · 16/04/2020 10:34

Good to hear it's not just me! I feel for you ladies it's just bloody awful isn't it!!

Yep! Apparently it's because your uterus contracts which makes your bowl contract to!

ScorpionQueen · 16/04/2020 10:39

bloody awful Grin
Until a recent thread I had always thought it was just me! It's one of the great unmentioned that is actually completely normal and very common.

Riddlediddle · 16/04/2020 10:41

The tablets are starting to kick in now and I'm starting to feel like a human again.
Isn't it awful how we almost feel ashamed to talk about this - we shouldn't have to sit away from something that is natural

Yep and often diarrhoea too. Just to add to the fun.

And then constipation sometimes as a side effect of painkillers! It’s a joy.

fuckinghellthisshit · 16/04/2020 10:48

Period shits. Bleerghhh
I quite enjoy educating men about this, why aren't women allowed to talk about their bodies?
I remember being in a shared house of 8 women and coming downstairs one days complaining about period shits. They ALL suffered but all thought it was just them.

CoffeeAndToffee · 16/04/2020 10:50

My period likes to surprise me. Diarrhoea some months. Constipation others. Javelin arse adds to the general merriment.

I can tell when my period is about to start by the change in my bowel movements a day or two prior.

Tattiebee · 16/04/2020 10:51

Yes, I don't have periods at the moment as on the mini pill, but I used to quite like it as felt like a good clear out. Bit grim though when cleaning up.

EwwSprouts · 16/04/2020 10:51

It's a known side effect. I recall reading a medical paper that it is possibly one of the reasons women get less bowel cancer than men in the younger age groups.

SciFiScream · 16/04/2020 11:21

I'd love to talk more about this but am scared this is a poo troll thread. Wish there was a way to be more confident. Sad

heartheal · 16/04/2020 11:29

I have the opposite problem. Get bunged up every month like clockwork!

Riddlediddle · 16/04/2020 11:42

I can promise you this isn't a poo troll. I genuinely get this every month and was just scoping out whether this was common amongst others. Ibrufen has kicked in now so that's it's over for another approx 30 days!
