Is this lichen sclerosis?

For many months - Years - I've had thrush at the onset of ovulation until my period. Unless I use pads, then it gets worse. If I use tampons it clears up straight away. I did have a swab once that confirmed thrush and I've assumed it since then.

However every month it's got worse and worse. This month is rough - it stings when I pee, I have a few sore spots on my inner labia and itching but not the discharge I would associate with thrush. I can feel the sore spots are bumps but couldn't get a good look in the mirror.

I've been with DH for 10 years and tested negative for STDs throughout that time including recently for the coil. I realise it's not impossible that these symptoms could be caused by std but on the balance of probabilities I think it is more likely to be something my body has come up with on its own. I do have psoriasis so previous auto immune problem there.

I have always wondered why canesten cream didn't do anything for me despite others saying it was a great relief. This month I bought vagisil again and it has helped although it stings on application. I don't want to bother the GP with this at the minute! What should I do?

Ring your GP. Licen sclerosis can lead to other problems down the line, including cancer. If it is lichen sclerosis, then your GP should provide an ointment (not a cream) to use. I have LS and thought it was thrush for a long time, canesten have no relief, I must have spent literally £100’s on thrush treatment. It wasn't until I have an appointment with a gynaecologist that I was diagnosed. Don’t think you are bothering your GP, itching down there is miserable, it makes you miserable and puts a hold on your life. Alternatively, go to your walk in GUM clinic and ask to see someone who has experience with LS. Good luck, I hope you find an answer to your issues.
