Found lump and terrified

RubyG3112 · 14/04/2020 13:54

Yesterday I found a hard lump about 3cm in my left breast. It moves about when I touch it and feels like a stone. I rang my GP and she said she would put me on the referral waiting list which should take about two weeks.

I feel absolutely devastated and terrified. I'm 30 and I have a 5 month old baby and can't stop crying, I feel like my whole world has just fallen in on top of me.

I've looked into going private but it would cost up to £2000 (for consultation, mammogram, ultrasound & biopsy) but I could be seen tomorrow. We would have to use money we loaned for house renovations, so I don't know what to do, but I don't know how I can go on waiting for another two weeks when I can't think about anything else.

Does anyone have any advice? I can't speak to my mum or sisters because I don't want to upset them when I don't know anything. I'm just so scared and upset and I'm sorry about sounding so self-centred at a time like this, when everyone is anxious and scared, I just don't know what to do or how to cope.

The private hospitals have been taken over by the government, my OH 7k op is on hold for god knows how long. So forget that.

2 weeks is very good, you could not beat that in private sector.

Are you breastfeeding or did you try to?

Oakmaiden · 14/04/2020 14:00

Most breast lumps are nothing to worry about.

Especially movable ones.

Get it checked out, absolutely, but try not to worry too much, it is more than likely not anything to be concerned about.

RubyG3112 · 14/04/2020 14:03

Justasking111 I'm not breastfeeding. I didn't even try, I had an emergency c-section so was a bit all over the place.

Sorry to hear about your husbands op being postponed.

Hey! The fact it is moveable is probably nothing to worry about and most likely a cyst, if you have no other symptoms just get it checked and then you can rest , I had a small moveable stone sized lump in my next last year , I’m 29 with a 2 year old and I was terrified , had tests and scans and it was just a reactive lymph node And had always been there , nothing to worry about x

iwantitalltobenormal · 14/04/2020 14:08

Also have a look at fibroadenoma , it could well be this x

justasking111 · 14/04/2020 14:10

Personally I would wait for NHS I say this as someone who has been where you are.

kennyjenny · 14/04/2020 14:15

I once found a moveable breast lump. My gp said because it's moveable and not attached to the tissue it's likely to be nothing sinister. It was fine and just a fatty lump.
2 weeks seems like a lifetime but it'll go faster than you think. Best wishes

RubyG3112 · 14/04/2020 14:24

Thanks so much for these replies. I think because I never got to see my GP face to face (understandably) and I'm not speaking to anyone in real life, I've got myself so worked up.

I knew someone with similar and it was a cyst x

Roomba · 14/04/2020 14:50

My cousin had a similar sounding lump and got herself so worked up, convinced she was going to die, who would look after her children... She had the wait for tests etc and discovered it was just a cyst. The relief was enormous as she'd just 'known' it was something awful, even though her GP reassured her that it usually isn't anything to worry about.

RubyG3112 · 14/04/2020 14:54

Thank you Roomba, sounds like I'm reacting exactly the same as your cousin, I hope I have the same outcome x

I'd also a lump which turned out to be a cyst too thankfully. I know it's difficult especially at the moment but try to keep busy. Hopefully all will be ok Thanks

Not all cancer is so bad. My aunty has breast cancer but it was all very quick and easy. All clear within about 6 months. No sickness, no hair loss etc. Sure it is going to be fine x

Floralgizelle · 14/04/2020 20:07

I'm 26 and found a lump when pregnant, got an ultrasound which he confirmed was benign, thinks its where the fatty tissue meets the chest wall. I have to go back for a follow up ultrasound tomorrow, post pregnancy just to check. This ultrasound was supposed to happen 3 weeks ago but got cancelled due to the radiographer being ill. So must admit even though I've already been told its benign and had a scan im still a little apprehensive then found a slightly darker bit of skin on the same breast ... que complete freak out! Saw a dr today who looked with a dermascope 100% nothing to worry about. I think with lockdown and all this time stuck indoors its hard not to worry and I was in the exact same frame of mind having 2 children. I did a lot of googling before my appointment and it really didn't help, I self diagnosed and just made myself worse. I sometimes find confiding in my husband helpful as he is a lot more rational. These forums also help as you get real life stories. They are usually pretty quick with these appointments. So easier said than done but try not to worry too much x

I've got a fibroadenoma. Most lumps are harmless, please try not to worry.

lightattheend1 · 19/04/2020 10:14

Hi Ruby
As easy as it is for me to say this, please don't consume yourself with worry. I had a very similar experience, convinced this was breast cancer and forever on google. Moveable lumps are very commonly fibroadenomas - fatty lumps that are extremely common and only need treating if causing a problem (pain etc) - not cancerous.

Tunnocks34 · 22/04/2020 20:44

I have just had this, small, firm but moveable.
It was a milk duct, which formed a cyst. I was confused because it didn’t hurt at all but apparently very common.

RubyG3112 · 22/04/2020 20:59

Just a quick update, I had a biopsy last week and got the results today, it was a fibroadenoma. I'm so relieved. Thank you for all your replies, I do feel a bit silly getting so worked up, but all your words of wisdom really helped me when I was getting myself in a state, so thank you xxx
