Has anyone found The Elixir Of Life?

Well, not quite. I've noticed my energy levels have been through the floor for a while now. Usually I would do exercise classes at least three times a week, which helps a bit- but now doing exercise is harder to fit in despite getting up at 5 on working days to get 20 minutes of yoga in before my 4 year old gets up.

My question is, has anyone found a combination of changes which have led to them feeling re-energised and vibrant? I would be very grateful for any tips. Even if it's a book suggestion- or has seeing a nutritionist worked for you..?

If I was getting up at 5am/ 5.30ish every day like you, my energy levels would be really low too OP. Personally that's just far to early for me. My body clock can't adjust comfortably to that and I merely tolerate it and feel drained. I recently changed career and learned about the impact of too- early mornings.. in my last job I had to get up about 5.45am and rush around doing childminder drop off to get to work for 7.40. I was knackered by tea time and crawling to bed by 9.30pm. Never even thought of socialising on a week night.
In my new job I can wake up about 7, sometimes a bit after. It's changed my life. It just feels humane and as if this is how my body and brain were meant to work. I stay up and hang out with DP until about 10.45pm now, or even go to the theatre or out for a drink on a week night! (Obvs not at the moment).

So that was my really long winded way of saying.. I think you might be getting up to early.

Maybe look at your quality of sleep? Are you snoring? Or stopping breathing? Also you could get up later and involve your 4 year old in yoga I've been doing it with my 4 year old she loves it lol also check your caffeine intake x

My elixir has certainly been swapping from full to part-time work. This was only able to happen thanks to DS. I worked full-time from age 18 to 40! Working 3 days a week with hours to suit school times has helped my energy levels enormously. I can do my exercise in my days off and catch up with telly. I feel like i've been re-born. They say life begins at 40 and for me that has been true Smile

combination for me

Got a load of blood and vitamin tests done and discovered low on everything especially vit d.

Started extreme vitamin d, vit k2, magnesium and calcium supplementation under doctor care

Also needed to lose weight. I've done that now and near target - long and ongoing process. This cured sleep apnoea as well as giving me more energy

I needed to conquer sleep, a terrible insomniac. I banned naps and lie ins to re-train my circadian rhythm, plus the vitamin d and all other steps mentioned in this post have helped enormously with it too

Pre and pro biotics. I felt the biggest difference in my wellbeing and sleep from taking inulin, a pre-biotic, just a form of soluble fibre. Amazing stuff.

I changed my entire lifestyle from sedentary and a lot of processed food/takeaway to all home cooked good stuff especially leafy greens and plenty of exercise

I became teetotal. Alcohol, even one glass, leaves me drained and listless the next day.

Recently repeated the blood tests and now everything is in optimal levels, I sleep like a baby, tons of energy. I don't think I'd be where i am now without the combination of everything. Bear in mind it is a long haul and you won't feel much of it for at least 2 months or so but have to keep going.

For me, it's eating clean keto - loads of energy, clear head etc. but i can't seem to stick to it long term, cheat and feel like crap all over again.

Thank you, @BrandoraPaithwaite , @mumme111 , @BooseysMom , @lubeybooby , @Grasspigeons , @Aunty5ocial . I really, really appreciate you taking the time to reply- and there's some great leads to follow up there.

  • Coffee (black, strong coffee...) probably more of it flowing through my veins than blood, so... sigh. Need to look at that.
  • Gut health definitely could be a big factor. I did have kefir going for about a year, I thought I felt better for it but it was a pretty big commitment and I felt weirdly guilty about neglecting it at times (!)
  • Blood and vitamin tests also sound worth looking at, more when this is all over though.
  • Will look up keto also. I do eat a lot of raw and healthy stuff but my family (and my partner in particular) are really resistant to the kinds of things I like: made veggie Tom Yum soup with noodles tonight and I'll be having that for the next couple of days too, by the look of it!

Not sure I could give up my Friday night wine session, but I am awe of your approach and your discipline, @lubeybooby !

Thanks again everyone: please excuse any typos as I am literally so knackered right now my vision's a bit blurred..! Confused

Argh! No idea why it went all bold FFS. Anyway, meant to add I do do Cosmic Kids Yoga with the short people in the morning, but if I try my stuff with them in the room, my smallest likes to either climb on my back, try balancing on my Achilles' tendons, or try to get at my boobs. The oldest will often try to join in, but rapidly gets upset if there's anything which is a bit tricky. Or she talks and talks and talks and talks some more. Bless.
