Periods make me feel awful

Anyone else get really debilitating periods? A lot of my friends have periods that last 3-4 days, bit of bleeding, minor period pains, carry on life as normal. For as long as I can remember mine have made me feel like I've been hit by a bus. I feel extreme debilitating fatigue a few days before, then when it arrives I get a headache, aching legs, cramping and exhausted. They are actually better since having children, they used to be so heavy that I would bleed through a super plus tampon and I would feel physically sick with the pain. Is there a reason for this or do others get this?

Endometriosis is a common cause of painful and or otherwise problematic periods. I have had not too dissimilar symptoms to what you describe, both feeling sick and the aching legs is something I can certainly relate to.

Do not blithely put up with this and when it is possible to do so I would suggest you see a gynaecologist to get answers.

Thank you for replying. I've seen the doctor about it and have been for numerous scans. Only thing it picks up is polycystic ovaries. I was booked in to have a laparoscopy years ago but then became pregnant so it didn't go ahead. I'd rather not go through that now to be honest. It's manageable but I just seem to suffer so much more than your average woman. Although it's not the sort of thing you usually talk to people about - only my closest friends. Just wondered if anyone else gets the same.

I realise you do not want to have a lap operation (I was terrified frankly when I was told that I would need this surgery) but the fear is worse than the reality and it could give you some answers. Endometriosis is usually detected via laparoscopy and it is often diagnosed via such surgery.

Do not put up with this potentially month after month and I would urge you to seek help from a gynaecologist when you are able to.
