I am set to have one in 2 weeks and freaking out cause I heard they give you a shot to numb you down there😳 I’m scared it’s going to hurt and also hurt during the biopsy. Im having one due to an abnormal pap and testing positive for high risk hpv. I had LSIL slight cell changes. They did a geno type test and tested negative for strains 16/18 the ones that cause cancer the most. Not sure why they want to do this procedure if I tested negative for those main strains.

Yes I have, I couldn’t really feel the needle and then after that felt nothing - so much that it was a relief having it done. Mine was severe changes but al taken away, I think they need to take it before it gets worse?

They give you a local anesthetic, it feels a bit like getting an injection at the dentist into your gum, uncomfortable but not sore. I felt the biopsy being taken, but it wasn't sore due to anesthetic. Had to take pain killers after as it was a bit crampy once anesthetic wore off.

I had one. They painted my cervix with some kind of acid and then used silver nitrate to burn away some cells. No injections, no pain relief and it didn't hurt. I would happily have one again. Hope that helps!

It's a bit uncomfortable and you might have a bit of cramping and light bleeding after. Take the afternoon off afterwards and watch a comforting film and eat ice cream

Also you have to wear one of those open at the back gowns and carry your clothes in a shopping basket where I've been so wear easy to get off things.

And if they ask if you want to see the screen, say no.

I had the same as a PP - the silver nitrate route. No injections, it didn't hurt. I was crampy afterwards; like having bad period paid. But it was fine and no problems after.

TerribleCustomerCervix · 17/03/2020 23:19

Same as PP- it was just like a smear that took slightly longer. No pain, no discomfort. There was a doctor who did it and then two nurses who chatted and distracted me.

CodenameVillanelle · 17/03/2020 23:22

Yes - it wasn't awful but it wasn't fun. About as bad as the coil being put in, worse than a smear test but not unbearable.

SamSeabornforPresident · 17/03/2020 23:28

Yup, when I was pregnant. I found it less invasive than an internal exam I'd had at maternity, and no pain at all. I also had silver nitrate. I was really stressed before but it was absolutely fine.

I had one Wednesday just gone. I had CIN3 changes and they performed a lletz with top hat there and then. It was painless for me.

Even the injections to numb the cervix didn't hurt. Much less worse than a dentist injection.

The nurses were fab and made me feel so relaxed. My right leg kept shaking mind!

Today I've been for 3 long walks and now feel a bit tired! Not sure if it's related.

I was worried about the whole procedure but it was so much easier than I imagined
