New treatment for acne in women?

Hello everyone,

We are running a study to find out more about a tablet that might help women with acne. The tablet is called spironolactone and it has been used safely for many years to treat high blood pressure. There is some evidence to suggest that spironolactone could also treat acne and if it does spironolactone could replace treating acne with antibiotic tablets for some women. Reducing antibiotic use is very important due to the risk of bacteria becoming resistant to antibiotics.

If you are a woman aged 18 years or older with facial acne and would like to know more about the SAFA study (Spironolactone for Adult Female Acne), please get in touch!

Visit www.southampton.ac.uk/safa for more info, the website also has email/telephone details for the hospitals taking part (in Harrogate, Birmingham, Bristol, Epsom, Poole and Portsmouth) so you can contact our lovely research nurses directly.

Best wishes,
The SAFA team (at the University of Southampton, email: [email protected])
