Post partum night sweats

Hi,
Since having my son 5 months ago my night sweats have been awful. Think soaking sheets, pyjamas, sweat dripping.
This happened after my daughter but no where near as bad. That time I stopped taking hormonal contraception which helped a little, but not much. This time I'm not on any! It took over a year to go last time, and I was checked for lymphoma and peri menopause etc just to rule all that out.
Is there anything I can do that will at least make them a little better? I hate that feeling of waking up soaking and it's still only 2am so I cant change the bed! I strip off but that makes no difference, and of course I actually feel a bit chilly anyway!
Help!

Forgot to say, I'm not breastfeeding. Expressed for 3 weeks after birth.

No real advice but you have my sympathy. I had my DD in March and this was one of the worst things I experienced during my pregnancy and subsequent post partum period. In the end I slept on massive bath sheets and would whip them off the bed when I'd soaked them. Luckily it was spring /summer so I could quick wash them and dry them on the line.

Would also love some advice on this as my DD is 8 months and I'm still waking up drenched most nights. Hard when I have to feed her and am sitting there in a cold freezing top willing her to finish so I can change it..
Not on any hormonal contraception either..
is it a waiting game?

So nice to hear it happens to other people too. Not one of those things people talk about!
Sleeping on bath sheet might be an idea! It's so awful and like you say freezing when you get up to feed!
I was reassured it would stop eventually, and I suppose it did last time, but took about a year!

@Tyrannosaurusdrip sorry meant to reply before now! No time with a baby to post anything!
I had my son 7 years ago and don't remember having this...
Had to change my top last night at 2.30 am as was too wet and cold to sleep in it after DD finished her bottle..
I suppose it's reassuring to know it stopped after a year - that feels like a while away yet though!

My baby is 10 weeks this week and I'm still getting the night sweats, horrible, wake up feeling like I'm in an oven. I keep thinking I'm menopausal, I don't remember having this after my first

halfpasteleven · 19/02/2020 20:38

It's interesting how we either haven't had or don't remember having this with our firsts. It doesn't seem to matter what I wear and I'm using a summer duvet.. really hope it stops soon for all of us x

@halfpasteleven it's funny isn't it?! I reckon it's one of those things that bother you for so long and then it slowly gets better until it dissappears so you forget. I'm going to try sleeping on a spare sheet tonight and just whip it off when I get up to feed the wee one. Just worried about disturbing everyone!
It is so reassuring that other people have it. Has anyone any other ideas to help?

Are you sharing a bed or do you have the bed to yourself?

If you share I’d recommend separate duvets. That way you can have a light duvet with a flat sheet underneath. And if you want to whip the duvet off then your partner won’t freeze.

If you have the bed to yourself I’d go with layers that you can remove/pull back over yourself as needed.

I don’t remember night sweats after DC but I’m certainly having plenty now post menopause. The worst is when you wake up it’s because the sweat has gone cold and your soaked and freezing. It’s so exhausting and miserable. I sleep in cotton pjs and have a flat sheet, a thin duvet and a throw at the bottom of the bed. I have a combo of these depending on whether I’m boiling or chilly. I also keep a spare set of pjs in the bathroom to change into when I’m soaked.

I hope the sweats wear off soon. I know DD had them dreadfully after DGD. They’re grim.
