Trimethoprim Early Pregnancy

Hello, I get frequent urine infections and have done for about 5 years now. My partner and I have stopped using any contraception in the hope that we will get pregnant. I am currently waiting to see if I get my period, I am due on in 5 days but have now got a urine infection and the doctor has given me Trimethoprim however I have read that it is not safe for the first 12 weeks of pregnancy. Now I don't know if I am pregnant yet but if I am I don't want to even risk taking them!

I was debating doing a first response pregnancy test tomorrow which would be 4 days before my period is due however if it reads negative because it's too early I'll never know!

Any advice much appreciated!!

Could you just tell the dr you need something pregnancy friendly

I was prescribed trimethoprim when pregnant and the pharmacist refused to I've it to me as I was pregnant! Went back to GP who apologised and prescribed something else instead (sorry can't remember the name) but if they don't know you're pregnant then what can they do?? Just tell your GP you aren't sure if you are pregnant or not.

Of course I mentioned it to the dr but she didn't seem interested I assumed because of my age (22) so she continued to prescribe me with Trimethoprim.

I did ask her if it would be okay to take them and she said the only thing I should worry about it getting a UTI while pregnant so I went on my way.
