Has anyone found they can't lose weight on progesterone only pill?

I'm at the gym 5 times a week and I only eat 2 meals a day if that but I'm hugely overweight and I cannot shift it, if anything I'm gaining.
It's been steadily getting worse since being on Cerazette but if I come off it I get such bad PMS that I become suicidal and psychotic, I'm feeling like I can't win tbh. Any advice?

It depends how many calories are in those meals

Cheeryandmerry · 30/01/2020 10:41

Can you use something like my fitness pal to log your calories? I reckon I do more than an hour’s exercise a day (swim, run, spin classes) but I’m afraid exercise isn’t a great weight loss tool...it’s easy to eat to replace the calories you think you’ve used. Give it a week being really really strict logging every single calorie and see what happens?

TitsalinaBumSquash · 30/01/2020 10:49

I have logged my meals I really don't exceed my daily calorie allowance. I'm quite real in terms of my habits, I assumed I must be having an extra 100 cake here and there but I'm really not! I've gained an additional stone and a half over the last 18 months. I'm on teamRH so track regularly.

Progesterone is a bugger for weight gain. You’re very much not alone. Low carb/low GI is the best approach but it can be a real struggle.

TitsalinaBumSquash · 30/01/2020 10:58

I know you can't outrun a bad diet I go to the gym for my cardiovascular health because I have hereditary heart valve disease and that is improving my resting HR has come down loads since working out regularly.
I was more just highlighting that I take the 'eat less, move more' thing seriously, I also have a very active care job.
If I could sort the horrific PMDD then I'd sack off the pill as quick as anything, it's killed my sex drive so it's not like I need it for contraceptive purposes.

Has your GP considered any other approach for the PMD?

TitsalinaBumSquash · 30/01/2020 11:19

No, she said wellness is the best thing, talking therapy (I already have weekly counselling) or at a last resort antidepressants which I've had before and make me gain weight, lose my libido and become really closed off from the world like I'm in a bubble. I can't win! I tried EPO but that caused nausea and breast tenderness. 🤦🏻‍♀️

Did she experiment with different antidepressants? It may be that you react differently to another one?

ChachyFace · 30/01/2020 11:33

I've been on Zelleta for several years and was recently changed to Cerazette. I think they're just the same. I'm 52, hoping to take it in order to prevent hideously painful periods til the menopause kicks in.....
I've lost 2.5 stone over the past eighteen months ( alternating periods of 1200 calories with periods of 1700 (maintenance) calories). So minipill hasn't prevented me losing weight- but that doesn't mean it isn't preventing you. I think women react VERY differently to the pill.

moneydisability · 30/01/2020 11:34

Well I def can’t seeing as I got pregnant on it 🤣🤣

RicStar · 30/01/2020 11:42

It is interesting how differently we react pop turned me into an alternatively crazy angry/ depressed no energy person. I have got a copper coil now and feel like myself again. I put on loads of weight on pop because I had no energy and was so miserable and or cross all the time but obviously it impacts your mood very differently.

Cheeryandmerry · 30/01/2020 11:48

I didn’t put on weight with the Mirena but it affected me quite badly emotionally. The menopause though, oh my goodness. So hard to keep weight off.

SingingGoldfinch · 30/01/2020 12:16

I know lots of people struggle with weight gain on cerazette - or progesterone based contraceptives in general so you're definitely not alone. I did lose weight while on cerazette though - I did 5:2 diet for about 4 months and lost 2 stone. I'm

StudentHelp · 30/01/2020 12:23

I went from 9 stone to 13 stone on cerazette eating 1500 calories a day and exercising 4 times a week so it definitely happens
