Bartholins cyst

I've had a bartholins cyst for around 3 years now which started small and has gradually got bigger. Admittedly I've popped it a few times only to find it returns.
I'll be seeing my gp about getting something done as it's really sore now but not infected apparently. I dont want a catheter put in I'd rather have the cyst removed.

I just wondered if anyone has been through it and managed to reduce the size of theirs or get rid if it at home? If not how long dyd you wait for a gynecology appointment to have it sorted?
It's really getting me down Sad

I feel for you - they are not pleasant! I first had one about 7 years ago. If I recall correctly I went to A&E as it was so painful and large I could hardly walk, and then got referred to the gyno unit and had it operated on same weekend. Unfortunately had it again a year or so later and think I had the same procedure done. Last had it when I was pregnant but fortunately went away of its own accord that time.
Is it just sore or actually very painful?

I'm not sure trying to 'pop it' yourself is a good idea - I think baths can help - seem to recall the last time I had it it drained in the night after I'd had a bath that evening.

I had a marsupialization a month after birth 30 years ago. Hasn’t returned.

It's more sore from where I've been trying to get rid of it. This has just made it bigger. My groin lymph nodes are up that side which I assumed with it being sore meant its infected but apparently not.
I've bought magnesium sulphate paste as I've read it helps but looks like I'll need a mini op too.
Thanks for the replies xx

For cysts you have to get rid of the sac, right? So I'd take the medical route and blast the bugger. Sympathy, they hurt.

I've been having Epsom salt baths too. X

Sympathies.

I had one recently. Sitting down was really painful. I actually squealed a bit when I moved slightly at work and felt it pop. (Thankful you I’ve worked with the woman I sit opposite for 12 years and therefore could tell her what happened without too much embarrassment!)

Taurusmum · 25/01/2020 15:51

Knowing my luck I'll cause more damage which I've already done I think.

Just to clarify - by 'operated on' I meant I was put under anaesthetic to have it drained. Both times was under general so might have been marsupialization. That is probably what you should have done. I think surgical removal of the gland is the last resort.

Taurusmum · 25/01/2020 15:52

Ok thank you I'm hoping they'll either rfnice thr cyst and stitch it get rid of the gland. I'm not having a drain in place for weeks.
