Should I be worried

Hi all really need some advice, advanced TMI warning.

I'm on CD1 and normally AF starts off light and by day 3 it's medium flow with maybe 2 pad changes a day but this month is totally different. It started off this morning as light pink bleeding only when I wiped, by this afternoon it changed to a sticky brown consistency but at 6pm TMI it was like someone opened the flood gates, it gushed out bright red with a clot the size of my palm and I've since had a tennis ball size one and 2 golf ball size ones, I'm not sure if there is any pain as I'm having dental pain at the minute and have pain killers in my system constantly topped up every 4 hours. I've just put my 3rd pad on since 6pm, I'm light headed on and off and every time I stand up it's like someone has knocked the wind out of me. I will add there's no chance I'm pregnant and I'm only 27 and otherwise healthy.

This is completely out of the norm for me and has me slightly worried 😕

Forgot to add that the pads I'm using are always night time maxi pads

I think you should call 111. It sounds as though you're losing a lot of blood very quickly, and in a way that is very unusual for you.

This level of heavy bleeding and huge clots was symptomatic of fibroids for me. I'd definitely visit your GP, OP.

Call 111 now

MrsKCastle · 22/01/2020 23:06

How are you doing @Maidmummy? I hope you have spoken to 111, just to check if you need to be seen tonight.

Maidmummy · 23/01/2020 10:35

Hi all sorry for the delay in responding, I decided to leave it overnight and see what happens, it slowed down considerably overnight and no more clots. I did realise this morning that maybe it's the painkillers causing it as for the last 5 days I've been on 4 hourly panadol and nurofen and I do know that nurofen thins the blood so I'm hoping it's the nurofen that's caused it

I had similar but I have a diagnosis of fibroids and I'd recently taken Norethisterone to try and stop intermittent bleeding so put it down to a combination of the two. I rang 111 and got sent to A&E for checking out but to be completely honest it was a waste of time going as all they did was check my vital signs, poke my tummy and send me home to keep taking painkillers and tranexamic acid which i usually take when on my period to "control" heavy bleeding. It did ease off within a few hours but I had a similar episode the day after and a smaller episode the day after that - passing big clots and heavy flooding. I've had 2 fairly normal periods since with no bleeding or spotting for a couple of weeks in between which has been a relief!

I doubt it was the nurofen or Panadol - ibuprofen is sometimes recommended on here to reduce heavy bleeding. I would ring the surgery and see someone about it - you could probably get some tranexamic acid like emmathedilemma or mefenamic acid to help, until you find out what is the cause.
