Ovarian cyst removal

I've just been put on the waiting list for removal of an 8cm cyst on one of my ovaries.

The Dr said it will be keyhole surgery through my belly button and a couple of other small incisions.

Just looking for a bit of advice about afterwards really, unfortunately DP is in the military and the chances of him being home at the time if the surgery is slim so whilst I can find someone to "look after me" really a couple of days is all I cna manage without imposing.

I also want to give my manager the heads up about it and would like to give her an indication of how long I'll be off for?

Thanks!

Hello,

I had a 10 cm ovarian cyst plus the ovary it was attached to removed 5 years ago. It was keyhole surgery and as you say a couple of other small incisions. I was amazed at my speedy recovery. The immediate recovery from sedation was the biggest bit and that is fairly quick. I was careful about not carrying my 5 year old daughter who sometimes like to be picked up for a few days. But found driving and household chores all very doable. My husband drove me home from hospital and the had to travel the next day, Mum offered to stay but I found I didn't need her so she went home. Because it is surgery it's natural to assume it will be a long recovery, but it genuinely isn't at all. I can barely even see my scars now too.
I hope this is reassuring.

Echoing above - recovery was much easier than expected! I had cyst and ovary removed too, was uncomfortable and tired for a few days but able to look after myself well enough (although didn't necessarily tell DP that, enjoyed getting him to run around after me too much!). Just stock up on food, books and box sets and you should be fine without someone to look after you.

The hospital automatically gave me a sick note for work for 2 weeks. I took the whole time off but realistically could have gone back after a week if I'd really needed to (desk job, may be totally different if your job is physically demanding).
Hope it goes well.

That's good to hear! Thanks!

I'm office/desk based so hopefully won't be off for too long then.

Now to find someone to help look after the doggos...

Had one removed three years ago. No problems. Not had an op since I was a child so was taken aback by how much the anaesthetic affects people after. I gave the nurses a good laugh the next day when I thought I had a raging infection . Not so - it was the coloured stuff painted onto the skin before an op!
